PC Financial will not open your account if you don't have a credit history in Canada for a year or so.

Thanks and regards.

wisernow,

I do agree with you. However, I thought some members would have the answer and save me the trouble of enquiring from the bank.

Anyways, I think biomed has already answered that query. I will enquire from ICICI Bank to find out more about this.

Thanks and regards,

Ayaskant.

Using the existing credit card account after converting it to international may be impractical as your purchases (in Canadian dollars) would be converted to rupees, and you would have to make payments in rupees as well.

Also not sure about whether India's forex regulations (now FEMA?) would affect spending on the card. Besides, ICICI would not report your India-issued card to credit rating agencies and therefore you would not get a credit history in Canada with that card.

Cheers

crenshaw,

Thanks for the information. I guess, I will have to enquire with ICICI Bank about this and open a new account for Canada when the need arises.

Has anyone used the ICICI Bank Newcomer's account ?
Does depositing money in this account prior to moving into Canada count as proof of funds ? ICICI Bank in India says they will give a letter issued by ICICI Canada with the details of the account and and the funds.
Would that be enuf as proof of funds at the time of landing ?

Would really appreciate any advice on this.

Money deposited in any Canadian Bank including ICICI Canada through proper banking channels would count towards proof of funds. You would have to provide the bank statement along with letter (preferably issued by ICICI Canada) and you would be fine.

Good Luck

Best luck.
