Dear friends,
I am relatively new to this site and would like to know some earnest opinions and advices especially from CA's, senior desi's,experienced members regarding simply how should one go on spending(saving) the $10,000 one brings to Canada as the baisc sustainable funds.Ofcourse one may even bring in $50,000 or more, but the question here is how to spend the basic $10,000 as stated in the immigration applications.(minimum requirements).
BASIC QUESTIONS ,LIKE SHOULD ONE GO FOR A MORTGAGE LOAN INITALLY OR TAKE A RENTED HOME, SHOULD ONE PAY PLACEMENT AGENCIES FOR FINDING A JOB IN CANADA, SHOULD ONE PREFER LIVING WITH OTHERS( sharing an apartment to reduce the rent),HOW LONG SHOULD ONE STAY AT A RELATIVE'S PLACE IN CANADA WITH HI-BI RELATIONS,HOW TO EARN AND LEARN,I.E TAKE UP A PART-TIME JOB OR FULLTIME JOB AND GET A CANADIAN QUALIFICATION,
IS IT IMPERATIVE TO TAKE A HEALTH INSURANCE COVER WITHIN 5 DAYS OF LANDING IN TORONTO OR VANCOUVER, HOW MUCH CASH ONE NEEDS TO KEEP /BRING IN WHEN LANDING IN CANADA,AND OFCOURSE HOW TO LIVE 'FREE' IN CANADA(FOR A LITTLE COST UTILIZING ALL THE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE ON THE NET AND PAPERS,DO THEY REALLY WORK?)
Dear colleagues, please remember that for Indians, $10,000 equals to Rs.3 lakhs! and is ofcourse byno chance not a small amount.
What i need to know from your worthy experiences or insight into living in Canada is the USE of food counpons, rebates, discounts in all the things one requires and how to get them, from where?
It is evident from this esteemed board of discussion that money tends to evaporate fast be it US $ or CAD$ or even IndianRs.
Hence a wise investment or spending strategy can save money and infact build up some savings even plus can also enjoy a confortable lifestyle (using all the rebates, discounts, etc). For eg. someone has made a good point regarding not going to a telephone company office personally to make a request for installation of the phoen or else they charge $300,but if same order is given on the phone, there is no charge!
Please inform and advice.
Thanking,
CAPRICO

Bell and Sprint ask for $200 as security deposit for home phone if you have no credit history in Canada and they will ask that irrespective of mode of booking a phone. Cellphone companies ask for deposit too.
