What are the popular accounting softwares in Canada?

I am an accountant by profession and have a working experience of more than 10 years now. Most of the time I have worked in Tally atmosphere (currently working on 6.3 ees version). Is this software used in Canada? Which other softwares are popularly used in Canada?

Peoplesoft, Accpac, MYOB.

No one knows Tally here - that is a program, which in my view only organisations with Indian background, or having accounting executives of Indian origin, use.

U r right, chandresh. BTW, AccPac, Simply Accounting, Quick Books Pro are more popular for small and medium size businesses. Bigger ones use JD edwar, ERP, SAP, Peoplesoft or customized packages.

Hello CDs,

Many thanks for your prompt reply!

Now, May I ask you for some advice/(s) too...

1) Do you think I have to get familiar with any of these popular softwares before I land in Canada?
2) How can I do that?
3) Or is it ok if I have good knowledge and experience in Accounts and Admin area - I can manage to work on any of those softwares which you have named?
4) Are there any courses available in Toronto / Calgary to learn any one of those softwares?
5) Do employers in Canada provide opportunities to learn on the job?

Anything that you know, please, share with me. It will certainly help me a lot. Many thanks once again!!

realistically, except for the last one, the others are not really "accounting software"... they are complex erp systems that have accounting modules which comprise only about 1/5th of what erp systems are generally used for...

the difference is very simple... erp systems need several million dollars of investment for initial implementation and infrastructure and several million each year over year for maintainence...

"accounting software" costs are in thousands (for companies... for individuals its even less)...

you can walk into a computer store and pick up a cd of simply accounting for $200... you cant exactly write a personal check for peoplesoft...
