Friends,

It is our dream to get a field in job. And when you got a job in field - you are all set.

I know it is difficult, but if you read articles posted on this site, you will realize that there are many people getting job in field.

You might like to know what are average salaries of engineers. Here are some.

JUNIOR ENGINEERS $45,000 - $60,000
INTERMEDIATE ENGINEER $55,000 - $75,000
SENIOR ENGINEER $65,000 - $90,000
GROUP/PROJECT LEADER $75,000 - $95,000
ARCHITECT $70,000 - $100,000
SUPERVISOR $75,000 - $110,000
MANAGER $80,000 - $125,000
DIRECTOR $110,000 - $150,000
VICE-PRESIDENT $125,000 + $150,000 +

See, evernif this people considers us as junior engineers we should get $45,000!!!

I wish we all could get such a job!

This is good information. The thing to remember is you should have the right type of experience to take up these jobs. I have seen people here in Alberta getting more than you have indicated - a Senior Engr is getting as high as 120k on staff or $75/hr in contract positions.

One more comment I'd like to make here is: when people come to Canada from India the only place on their radar screen is Toronto. Believe me! Canada is not just Toronto!! When you are travelling thousands of kilometers away from India to reach a far-away place you should not get nervous about travelling a few more! Toronto is not the end of the world.

Desi in Alberta,

Sahi bola, Toronto is not end of Canada. But that is not most of people think . I am also in Toronto and doing good job, but for most of people this is not the case. When we come to talk about moving to Calgary or Edmonton, they says we don't know anyone there, how come we go there.

So this is problem. They want good job at the same time company of fellow Indians.

BTW, since you are from that part of Canada, why don't know let us all know about situation there?

We just completed a fantastic garba-raas season here in Calgary. We will have diwali celebration. There are temples, gurudwaras, masjids in Calgary and Edmonton. The vaisaki celebration by the Sikh community is a major attraction.

When I arrived in Calgary in 1999, I knew absolutely nobody in this place, no knowledge of the city. I arrived here with my family. I took a taxi from airport to a cheap motel and stayed there for a few days before renting an apartment. This is how I started my life. I now know many desi families here who are very good friends.

Where there is a will, there is a way!

I believe in Calgary itself there are over 2500 gujaratis (not counting Ismailis who also speak Gujarati - Ismailis have their own community and jamat khana - they are very nice people but do not participate in Gujarati Mandal activities).

2500 means about 500-600 families, that is very good. Here we have impression that there are very few people in Calgary.

Thanks

:)
