Dear Friends,

Could somebody suggest how to avoid receiving frequent telemarketing calls ?

Since last few weeks I have been regularly receiving calls from a Telemarketer of Long Distance Service Provider. I have been politely declining his offer for obvious reasons but he seems to adamant on calling again and again.

Now I am fed up and really want to teach him a lesson. Sorry to state that he is a fellow Indian only.

Is there any way out ?

Best way is to waste his/her time.
Tell him that you will be right back & put the phone down
till he gets the message & disconnects...

Make him suffer WAITING . . .

You can ask your name to be removed from company's calling list. I do not know if new regulation has been implemented where they have to give you some reciept number to confirm that your name has been removed.

You can also contact Canadian Marketing Association(search google for CMA telephone number) and ask your name to be put in "do not call" list.

Also if you getting calls from one single company again and again, you can contact them at their toll-free number and complain.

This trick will not work if you get called by call center where 100s of agents are working in shifts.

I know this can be quite annoying, but as Power Elite mentioned, so far I have never been rude to them. The person can be from any country, but the reason I won't be rude is coz for the first 2 months in Canada, I was doing the same job, and hence I understand the pressure. I just use one word, "NO", and then wish him/her good wishes for the next call.

But YES tele zapper is good idea, and as rajcanada suggested, you can also choose to delete your name from the list of telemktg.

I agree, I always respect that as most of them will be immigrant survivors...you can always say NO once you hear what are they selling.., in fact, i don't find them bothering..cause i like to talk, also at times they do have some special offers/info. as to what's happening in canadian market.
