I typed "Visual Basic" and workopolis says there's about 22 jobs posted in the last month. Dice says 1000!! So there you go.
BEAUTIFUL COMMENT
Guys, Let us be more realistic.
I worked in workopolis web site as an system analyst/programmer for 30 months. I excatly know What workopolis means , Most of the pages I have built.Workopolis in my experience when i do queries on Tables, 80% Jobs are NOT real , they just exist, Why??? because companies pay yearly unlimited posting & so they have every reason fooling canadian people around.
Second thing about Interviews,
Yes It's long process, Reason being is So many people roaming on streets with their resumes, so they have very good reason because canadian culture is more late back culture...
I , myself , moved from US ( from h1-b visa) to canadian immigrant in November 2000.
I found the job here within one week( although i had four interviews for the same job), I guess i had US experience.
but that was November 2000. But after 2002, I tried so many times, but can not succeed.Today I still fortunately have my same old job.
I stronly waiting for November 2003 , so that I apply canadian Citizenship & again will explore the 300 Million people country, I am tired of canadian 4 miliion people toronto industry( YAh ... i know there are 30 Million people).
I personally belive , if you are ambitious & think about your future , better try to get rid of this canadian market as soon as possible. that's different issue if you like watering your garden , then canada is the heaven for you.

Hello:
I just came across this site today and I wanted to add my two cents worth to this conversation.
The truth is that job hunting is hard regardless of whether you are a Canadian or an immigrant. I moved here as a teenager from East Africa. My parents had a tough time finding jobs because they had "no experience" at least that was according to the Canadian recruiters. They couldn't get that elusive Canadian experience because they couldn'd jobs. It was a struggle to say the least.
Now that I am a year from Graduating with my degree in Accounting, the job prospects aren't looking that great. It took my older brother (also an accounting major) 1.5 years to find an articling position, and he was willing to move anywhere.
The truth is that people with Degrees out of University are a dime a dozen. It's not enough to have "A" grades - and lets face it, the mentality that many people of East Indian decent have is that if you have good grades you can succeed.
I am working on a co-op work term in Calgary right now and the only reason that I got a job with this reputable firm is because I am one of those people who is well rounded. That my friends is what people look for (at least that is what the HR advisor told me).
For what its worth I encourage you to broaden your experience by volunteering or participating in work sponsored events, charities, etc.
Sunny Welcome to this board!!
