We have lot of discussions and articles on that - but this is worth reporting.

A friend of mine recently moved to USA after getting his Green Card. He was in Canada for about 3 years.

Now look at his experience in his own words.

Quote:

You will be surprised to know that my skill job that I could not get in Canada in three years, I could get it here in 3 days. Immediately after arriving here in USA on Sunday, 4th May; I gave three interviews starting from Monday 5th May, Tues 6th May and Wends 8th May. In all the three interviews I was selected and I had to make a choice. From all the three jobs, I selected the last one of Wednesday. That company is prime company engaged in export-import-marketing of diamonds and jewelry. Though this company's office is in New York (very far from New Jersey where I am living with my brother) and use Quickbook for accounting, I decided to join this company. I told them I know only Simply and ACCPAC and had never seen and used Quickbook, they themselves told me no problem, it is user friendly and we will guide/teach/train you and help in problem. Though for initial two weeks they told me that company will see my performance and then put me on regular payroll, but immediately after seeing my performance for 8-10 days, they told me that right from the day one I joined the company i.e. 8th May, they are putting me on regular payroll.

So friends, there is definately wrong something with Canadian System. What to you say?

Good for your friend, but I think he got extremely lucky. I know people in the US who've been out of work for at least 2 months and can't find anything. It depends a lot on how much research you do for your job hunt and what skill-set you present. I think being in Canada forces us to be much more diligent about job-searches and that helps in a market like the US. I'm sure he must have applied extensively from here before moving to the U.S. I would have a tough time believing he applied Sunday and got interviews on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Having said that, the fact is there's really no comparision between the U.S. job market and the Canadian job market. If you're in IT and want an example, just go to workpolis, type your skill and see how many jobs are available. Then go to http://www.dice.com" rel="nofollow">LINK and do the same.

I typed "Visual Basic" and workopolis says there's about 22 jobs posted in the last month. Dice says 1000!! So there you go.

Are you there?

The numbers are OK. USA is 35 crore and Canada is only 3. So for visual Basic if USA has 1000 jobs we should have 100!

The basic point is - employers in USA are much more accomodative than in Canada. Have you ever heard the word "Amercian Experience" or "American Education" is required before you get a job in your field?

Our engineers coming on Spouse Visa are getting jobs directly without much problem. In Canada this seems a dream for most of people.

You are absolutely right.

I lived in US for a few years in US before I came to Canada.

In US they see for your Technical skills as a primary reason for offering you a job and in Canada they see if you have experience in Canada and references from Canadian employers though you are tested once again through written exams and Tests for which employers and agents spend money. What I don't understand is, when the results are good then why ask Canadian experience. If you are to ask that anyway, then why check you out on exams.. If they atleast value your experience as a job seeker, I guess one day we will find.. It's a torture every new immigrant faces when they are told they need Canadian experience..

One interesting fact: I have worked as a consultant for 5 years in US and not even once have seen a client before I started working. They always spoke to me on phone and confirmed contracts. Here recently Ajilon stressed me once to come and visit them and I spent 1/2 a day for this trip only to speak to the agent for 2 minutes. All he said is, he is very happy with my com skills, tech skills, references in canada, exp in canada but to have my resume sent to their client as a rule, the agent has to have seen you in person. So, he saw me, told this and let me go thanking me for the trouble I have taken. Hmm.. I wonder he figured out that I too have 2 eyes, 1 nose and 2 ears and so on ...

Hope this helps..

Thanks

What is reason for this mentality? The orthodox british mentality? How things are in UK?

Mentality is simple.

In Canada, they want to do things, the way Americans do,

but,

with the British system !!

Is it possible?
