I agree, the best 'name' isn't necessarily the best school. Most companies today are realizing that many graduates depend on the name of their 'institution' to get a job instead of themselves.

I mean, put it this way. Two Universities, A and B, A has a leading reputation and B has an average reputation.

A student in Uni A has a GPA equivalent of a C and a student in Uni B has a GPA equivalent of an A, both in the same program/field of study.

Do you think the employer really cares if you came from a pretigious UNI that you pretty much just barely survived? Whereas the student in Uni B excelled at the field, even though it was not from the greatest uni?

Many people from these "prestigous Uni's" don't have a "prestigious GPA" or expertise to go along with their degrees, and hide behind the UNI's name.

Employers are catching this and many of them don't really care because they realize that all professional education is accredited by single-body institutions. For Engineering, it's the PEO, for Medecine they have their own, Business their own and so forth. Each UNI must maintain a standard within these bodies, or else they would eventually lose their right to grant degrees in those field of study. Employers realize this, and know that even uni's that are not so prestigiuos if they're still in the realm of granting degrees in that field of study, they're probably doing well (many uni's have lost their licenses to grant certain degrees, ie; UofT for Aerospace Engineering).

Employers are also aware that many graduates from prestigious universities have a tendency to possess cocky "know it all" attitude, that they do not want to deal with. Sometimes going to a "prestigious" university could detrimentally affect your chances.

However, going to the "cheapest" isn't necessarily a wise idea either. Cheap could also imply, lack of facilities, low-grade environment, inexperienced professors, or in many cases very expensive fees in other areas (where they must make tuition cheaper), ie; books, computers, internet access, residency, commuting, gas, lifestyle etc.

Dear Anuj

The above posts are pretty clear in themselves.

I think that you may require an acceptable IELTS - Academic module score and a GMAT score.

If "Cheap" is the keyword then there are many in India itself. Ghaziabad for one - if you are in Etah.

Name of an institute DOES count - whether we are willing to accept it or not. Dont you try and go to a good reputed doctor, or the authorised showroom, buy a costly appliance with a guarantee (which doesnt mean that it is fail proof - but simply a peace of mind that the item has been tested or made by a reputed company) or send your children to a reputed school ? The good schools teach things in a different way - and you have to see thoe students to realise what they are made of and what the institute further makes them into. Lets not demean them please.

Yes the "weathered and school of life" people are there in abundance but they usually have go to senior levels by sticking to jobs & climbing the ladder or by switching from one job to another in Marketing (which is where they can show "results" - by "kitna bika";)

However, the weathered ones are people who claim "ground" experience & who tend to do things by their "knowledge" .

While economics, logistics, operations and research required to run a business house are a different cup of tea altogether - Big corps have a lot at stake and dont run on mere experience, USUALLY.

If these people were accepted everywhere - why arent Indians getting more jobs in Canada ? Why the need for WES evaulation and why the need for a brand name ?

While theres no denying that the "school of life" do make thier mark - if given an opportunity - however an employer would like to see credentials rather than take a guy at face value.

So its becomes essential to have a qualification from an institute of repute to get you to the interview panel of a high repute business name. Lower the grade and name of the degree - lower is grade of the business willing to hire you.

So Anuj, if cheap is the rule, try and stick to India or online degrees- however if you are planning to get into Canada "to study" and then immigrate - TO PHIR THEEK RAASTE PAR HO - If this be the reason, then there are other colleges which you can join with ease without so much of requirements.

Regards

SF

Anuj,

I dont know what your reasons r for trying to get into a cheap university which doesnt even have stringent requirements for admission.

However I do know one thing that u can find all ur answers if u do a bit of research and communicate with the univs directly rather than posting on this site.

And dear Ottawa_nerd , one does not need to know french to go to the MBA program at U of Ottawa. I had got admission there and i dont know a word of french.

Thanks

IMor :) Did you read my post completely ? You must have entered the MBA program as an Anglophone, with your GMAT scores. If you register as a francophone (which my ex-girlfriend did), you do not need the GMAT. You can take your courses in French and write your Thesis also in French/English. Of 'cos, you will be tested for your proficiency in French

Hi Anuj
I dont know whether it is late for me to reply to your post but I thought it would do a world of good to do so......
I am presently doing my MBA from Montreal (HEC) and it is among the top ten non US business schools ( there are three others from Canada) and the fee is the lowest... you can think of this... but yes, in case you are an international student then the price you would have to pay is much higher.
All the best for your plans.
