Just another tip. Let teh interviewer talk. In many cases I have observed desis talk too much boring the interviewer (I should say ticking the person off). On the flip side, I hate questions such as "what you will be doing in 5 years?". Huh! this qn should have been posed to Nortel employees.

Advice is free – lessons I charge for!!
1. I have sat on interview panels when desis are candidates.
2. I do get feedbacks when I am not in the interview panel.
Not everyone is dumb. Most interviewers can figure out the BS. So try to impress by intelligence and try to be sincere as much as possible.
Power tie !! Power dressing ,
Interesting knowledge .I didnt know abt power ties I admit. Thanks 4 the tip .
But the basic q is --dressing and personality help but do they help a real lot in Canadian Interviews ?
I mean if a guy is decently dressed (in a blue suit & blue matching tie ) and the other is power dressed (blue suit and red tie ) and the post is proffessoinal does it matter in practice . May b it sounds naive but I am totally oblivious of this concept. Will it matter ??
Its in deed a pity that Interviewers turn down deserving candidates for reasons of their insecurity . Hmmm ......... must b true .

well, obviously if you put it that way i wouldn't matter. a decision wouldn't be made on the basis of the colour of your suit or tie.
it's a supersticion, but like all supersticions, it could be self-fulfilling. if you think your power tie will make a difference... it will.
it does for me
The thread started by Chris was good. Ideas, experience and suggestions by other fellow members were also correct from their individal's point of view.
When we discuss abt how to appear in an interview, we can't really suggest a common set of behaviors. It's different on case to case basis.
Dressing is as important as the qualifications and presentation skills of the candidate. I usually prefer to where Jet black suite with WHITE shirt and a POWER TIE. Again in my case, it's suitable coz I am a person from banking and finance ind.
I also agree abt Chris's point of stories or I would say real life examples. Just by saying, I am a team player or I supervised 10 people etc, you are not convincing an interviewer. Explain your skills, then explain how and where you applied it, and what was the net result of that for your co. If you can substantiate the same by some rewards certificate or letter of appreciation, you are almost thru. Sometimes, an interviewer may ask you a Q, for which you can answer by posing another Q.
I would strongly suggest to read the book called, "101 Great Answers to the Toughest Interview Questions", by Ron Fry, 1995. This bok is available in all libraries. Even if you are not scheduled to go for an interview in the near future, still read it. It's an amazing book. It helped me a lot.
