First of all we need to separate IT from the rest of the professions. IT professionals have arpund 90 % hiring rate.

Apart from that other peofessions come with ac50 % or less survival rate. In the remaining around 30 are happy with labour job, cash job, mac donalds etc.. in this many refugees and low level immigrants will fit in.

Around 20 % or the less are the ones who get dinged.

TK It is not the profession, it is determination and attitude which makes difference. I know few people who are from IT background and not able to get an IT job. I think you are an architect and I know 3 persons of your domain who are doing extremely well here in Canada. First came in Canada in late 90s and he worked with a big private contractor who used to build warehouses and office buildings. That guy worked for around 2 years and learned all inside/outside tricks of the trade. He borrowed some money from back home and bought his first commercial piece of land in Brampton and built a strip plaza. Around 2005, he was having over 15 commercial plaza projects in Celadon, Peel and North York.

The second person came around 2010 and did some certifications. He is working with a builder on high rise residential building projects. The third person also came the same time and he also upgraded himself and become member of some Ontario body of Architects or some sort of regulatory body who governs the building codes. I met him in 2014 when he started his own practice of preparing drawings for private home owners and small projects. If someone needs an additional basement door and want to have an additional window, city needs drawing with all proper building codes. He started preparing those drawing with proper city codes. I remember he used to have an old while van and he put his advertising sign on both sides and back of the van advertising his services and phone number. He used to park his van in the public parking entrance gate of City of Brampton where people go for such permits. Initially he got the work from those visitors. He started charging $ 500 for one additional door/entrance drawing and now he is charging $ 1000. I met him last month. He is busy like crazy, have 3 employees working for him and printing money. Last year, City of Brampton started allowing second dwelling unit in basement but you need to apply for permit with proper drawings and according to city code. This policy change caused a windfall for him.

If you have been here in Canada, I would like to personally arrange your meetings with all these persons so that you can get an idea what you could have achieve if you have determination and positive attitude. You can get guidance and someone can only point you towards the right direction. You have to walk yourself to reach to your goal.
