With diminishing value of America's global influence, there is no doubt that China is right there to take up that space. For India dealing with China is a very sensitive issue. One, it is a neighbor country, two, we have border disputes with it, three, it is a biggest hurdle preventing India to deal with Pakistan.
Arguments goes in favor of joining it:
We have a long history of trade, commerce and cultural exchange. We both take pride in being the oldest civilizations in the world. China is more a business nation than a military nation. With commercial interests in the states like Pakistan, China would twist Pakistan arm to bring peace in that hostile part of the world. India can also benefit by the commerce, something Modi is more inclined towards.
Arguments against it:
India can never trust China. Remember, Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai? The OBOR passes thru POK, which India can never accept. OBOR also gives China proximity to India's many of the sensitive areas such as Kandala Port, Jamnagar etc.
To me it seems like a tough job for Modi to deal with it.

OBOR is over hype – India should never compromise with its sovereignty
India itself is big market for worlds so world cannot ignore India completely, we may have small lose but we have to bare the pain.
People criticizing Modi govt about not joining OBOR but I strongly support govt decision not to compromise on our sovereignty issue.
Let them agree that India has same claim on POK as Pakistan do. If China want to make real benefit they should go along with India’s concern or its both parties lose.

Agreed, but Modi must counter it with alternate narrative, which he has already began. All the countries in the Indo-China region considers as a 'friend' country and they see China with suspicion. Fortunately all those countries are booming with economic activities (or have potential to do so), heavily populated. This all goes to India's advantage.
That is the reason Modi is putting more focus than any other government in the North East Region. Indian government should really build a world class city in north east and make it a commerce hub. A city that can have 2-3 hours flights to most cities in the Indo-China region and about 24 hours time for a road travel.

Yes, we can noticed the changes..
Modi top brass is working hard to protect North East, that is the key...
Internal matters mostly handled by Shah team , top bras only working towards foreign polices, mainly, afghan, bangla , china ,
they have put Kashmir issue on side burner.. they need Kashmir issue alive to oppose China's stand diplomatically , govt has realize that China is too big to counter directly so they are using Kashmir ( cause china will need Pakistan and will not oppose any wrong doing of Pakistan- that will give India strong reason to oppose china openly
South Asia is changing and India will play big role in it. Just we have to more careful with USA/Europe, right now they need us but later it can turn against us.
But good thing is that no one can ignore India at this moment. We hold very strong position in South Asia
OBOR will be big headache for China - yes we need OBOR too but China need India more then us. sooner or later China will have to sit with India.
Lets see what happen in future but i trust our Govt they are playing very strongly and smartly ... we will see the result in coming years, plan just started it will take time.
Only one think can change everything if one of them go WACKO and start war. China might use Pakistan to start war or they will start from Arunachal Pradesh.. Though Very Very rare chances
For us India , start looking towards India , we will be surprise in coming decade , we will see lot of people would like to migrate to India.
Sone Ki Chidiya is becoming reality in near future...

China can never afford any full fledged war. The mighty US have lost all the wars it got involved with, even though it never fought any war in it's own soil in the recent history. For China, with hostile neighbors from all sides it will be a very dangerous situation.
You also made a very good point on how current government and BJP are working. While Shah and his team is completely focused on developing the Party, whereas Modi and his team is completely focused on developing India. We haven't seen such a nice balance in recent past.

Yes, no country can afford the WAR , especially China/India - it will be huge damage to both side...
But i still see small skirmish going to happen soon, either from Pak side or from China side.
there is other side also can play the role in that, Shadow World ( Rothschild family & gang) , they are too big a player, they will try to control Asia's market , if they see Asia is going out of thier control they will throw a war by hook or crook.
That is why i said OBOR is overhipe - nor india nor china control the world money
