Relocation Advice: is it worth the cost to move our furniture?

We are relocating from USA east coast to GTA- is it worth the cost to move our furniture if we cut it down to basics- couch-sofa; One King Bed; maybe a few small pieces. Has anybody moved cross countries?

If you are moving it yourself in a U-Haul. Its worth it. If you are paying others for it, professional movers , not worth it.
Just bring your personal belongings and expensive small items.
Bulky and heavy items like sofa, bed, mattress etc, not really worth it. Too much headache and hassle, and you will just save a few bucks at the end of the day.
Big mistake coming to GTA from the US east coast. You will regress and deteriorate over here. You are going backwards and not forward by coming here.
You are probably coming here for the PR card and CAD citizenship, as your US status like work permit etc must be expiring. Lot of people make that mistake, you are one of them.
But USD is stronger than CAD, so your savings will go a long way over here as you dip into them. Everything else will be more, your taxes, car insurance, groceries, utilities etc in Canada than US.
Free Medicare is a joke in Canada. Will take you 6 months to see a specialist and 1 year to get any surgery done. You will be dead by then. It will take you months to find a competent Family doctor in Canada, who is accepting new patients.
It takes about a month to get your family doctor's appointment. So low level walk in medical clinics are famous in GTA. They will write a quick prescription and you are out. They don't care about your past medical history, nothing, but just want to make a quick buck by swiping your health card.
Welcome to Canada "The land of opportunities" . Visit few furniture sites below to see how much is the cost of new furniture here VS. yours in hand. Calculate the freight and possible storage rental to see if its worth moving the stuff.

I have many friends who moved out of USA due to visa issue initially with a plan to move back. None of them ever went back after few years enjoying what Canada has to offer.
Atlast money is important but not the most important factor to decide.
Good luck with your move and decision. If you and or your wife is in IT you should not have too much issues with transition.
