Thanks !
When mentioning Vancouver, I meant the GVA, which includes Surrey. As long as I have sky train / bus connection, it is OK.
Yesterday I was earning $ 2000 CAD in hand per month (after all taxes). Today I am destitute.
My mother is at the end of her life span. It is my duty to see that she is well cared for and she leaves this world in a dignified way. Lately she has lost her hearing too.
There is a recession here but a mild one. I still have not started job search but will do so soon. There are a lot of teaching positions available at $ 800 CAD a month (full time) or $ 400 CAD a month (guest lectures, say 3 days a week). I am still exploring that.

Sorry to hear about the rough patch that you are going through TK! Keep your hopes high and stay away from the negative thoughts @ this hour!
Quick Q for you:
1) As a CAD citizen, did you open a regular bank account in India, or since you were on OCI, you were asked to open a NRE/NRO/NRI account for your banking needs in India?
2) If you are not an Indian citizen, can you still be in a joint account with someone in India (for e.g. parents acc)?
3) Being an OCI/CAD PP holder, can I legally open a regular acc in India?
Regards

As a foreign national, if you live in India for more than 180 days you are eligible to open regular savings account in India.
http://www.hdfcbank.com/personal/products/accounts-and-deposits/savings-accounts/regular-savings-account
As a non-resident of India, you cannot open regular savings account if you are visiting India for a short duration. These are what rules say. If you don't want to follow the rules, you will require an identity proof like PAN card and local address proof like voter ID card. Aadhar card will serve both as ID and address proof.

Q: What about this scenario?
- If you are not an Indian citizen, can you still be in a joint account with someone in India (for e.g. parents acc)?

Update -
Today was supposed to be my lasy day (31 Dec. 2016). It was extended for a month from Nov. 2016.
Now still the project that I am handling is not finished. Therefore my manager came up with this bright idea. He told me that he will retain me for 2-3 more months but he will pay me only Rs 40,000 a month.
I agreed to it as I had no other job offer. My major expenses are Rs 14000 a month on rent and electricity. Rs 5000 for petrol charges and around Rs 15,000 for food and outings.
My HR fired me for having accepted such an offer. To him, he says that I can be extended my work but that I should have my previous salary and designation.
The day after, I will cease to be a permanent employee with gratuity and PF and switched over to being a consultant. However I have told that I will work only 5 days a week, with the remaining 2 days to travel to Chennai to look for a new house to rent and new job.
Wish you all a very happy new year 2017 !!!
