Are there any recommended places where you can get home made rotis ( whole wheat preferred ) ?

We currently get ours from Scarborough - Suraj Desi Kitchen , but exploring for other tried and tested options also.

Not looking forward for the well packaged Mom Made or Crispy brands but home made in plastic packages of 10 .. which you sometimes see @ grocery stores near the cash counters.

Please recommend if you have used and liked them .

Since I don't live in GTA, I do not have any recommended place but there are so many people running tiffin services in GTA from their homes. You can check CD Classifieds or Kijiji. Most of them would sell freshly made home made rotis.

I posted this under the Kitchen Machines, just to inform that the Machine will be paid off with in a Year.

I happened to meet an old friend of mine there in town and we both headed to 7600 Weston Rd. I picked up a few croissant at that location. Adjacent to it there were our regular Rotis and the brand name was 'Santosh'. It was a sealed Ziplock bag*. It contained 10 such in it. They cost me $1.89 each per pack OR 19 cents each Roti. I felt it was a very good buy! Hence this note under the topic. (One Pound pack.)

* After you break the seal it will permit you to close it and reuse the same.

They are not the Large 12" ones that I prefer to use as wraps, but will do. In an emergency I think I can always look for that Brand Name. It is not economical, but saves the day.

Hope this helps us all in these days of economic turmoil.

Can you share the location where you found the ADM Atta. It's a steal at that price. I can certainly use some.

There must be a lot of preservatives in Santosh roti since it sits on the shelf without refrigeration. I've seen them on sale for $1.49 at the Metro.

Start of the year I picked up a bag and I just checked the package and it says it is 20 Kgs which is 44 Lbs. and I paid $12.00 for it then.

Currently it is being sold at Asians.. : http://www.asianfoodcentre.com/flours-sooji/3051-adm-whole-wheat-flour.html

The price has gone up considerably since then. It is $15.99 today. Last week it was 13.66 at Mians'.

I do agree about the freshness of the store bought Rotis. I only go by the Best Before date on it. If consumed within a short period, then, you made a good observation and a great buy too.

Shortly (I do not know how shortly) P & H is opening up a plant here in Ontario, close to Hamilton and they claim its capacity will be about 40 million bucks. I am hoping to see a drop in price, but not much as the competition will increase. It is a wait and watch game.

YOU NEED TO READ THE BLEND PART OF IT. (Below) These all are ADM Products Made for others at their request. Most of the ALL Purpose flours contain a chemical which is like 50 lbs in 20,000 tons mixed with it. They are bleaching agents. But in the North American Continent they are considered Accepted Norm. (The Bleach is AZO Di Carbonamide) 46/ppm. They camouflage it as Enriched materials. (The Stone Ground ATTA is free of this substance.)

Last Friday - we ordered and bought 10 Hand made Rotis from Shriji, Brampton. It was very good. I must add that all these Rotis were made fresh. You need to order and allow 1 hour before you can pick them up.

It is a gujrati food shop. I was also glad to find excellent 'bada pav' - something which I had in Thane in 1988. Kept thinking about Bada Pav since then but was glad to get it :)

You can try the fresh Roti made everyday at Longos. May not be at every location but I know they have the Roti making plant at Hwy 10 + Raylawson and the new location near Credit view road and Sandalwood pky - in Brampton. They make different varieties like Golden temple floor, Whole Wheat and Maithi Roti. The process is neat and clean and in front of you.
