Hi,

We're planning to move to Kitchener....
Basically I am searching for good family locality. My kid is about to join grade 6 .Wanted to know more about good public schools near by Kingsway Drive,Kitchener.
My work place is near Kingsway drive Kitchener and will be very happy if I can find a very good school nearby .Are there any families who can help with in Kitchener ? or about the information.I am fine if the distance between my home and work is far but has to be close to a good school. But the apartment need to be decent (like few Indian families around)

Look forward to hearing from all the desis in Kitchener/Waterloo

Kitchener Downtown is bad. I would avoid that place. There is some violence in schools there. I am talking of where the shoping malls are.

There is a school near Belmont avenue (border with waterloo) where you can get apartments to stay. 547 Belmont avenue west.

Waterloo has limited apartments and every area of waterloo is good. You can blindly settle in any area of waterloo.

Hope this helps.

Stay in Guelph if you can. Very nice area and quite a few Indians too. Guelph to Kitchner will be less than 0.5 hr commute for you, 30 Km. Guelph has a city feel to it, Kitchner or even Waterloo not so much. After Black Berry died both K and W have a ghost feeling to it.

Cambridge is not bad either, just 20 min commute to Kitchner.

It is not so easy to get you settled here in Kitchener. ON. Having got an idea as to where it is that you will be working, we can locate you and your family near a school that is currently suitable to his level of entry. In doing so, I will provide you with all of the tools made available to me and you can use them to search for all of the features that you will be looking for your family's betterment.

Work Place.. : Known. KINGSWAY DR. Kitchener. It is about 6 Klicks +/- long and is a circuitous road and embraces a shopping mall.

Rental.. : You will need a TWO BR. Apartment and not knowing the Rental Budget, I will provide you with the links to them. You can select one suitable to your pockets.

School.. : The kid will get into Grade 6 for sure and that will be the final year in that school since the Elementary Schooling gets over at that location.

Based upon this, you do have a chance to settle down for ONE good year at the place you choose and a need might arise for a MOVE when the kid enters the Middle and Higher Secondary School close by. By then you will get to know the town and a lot of other things which might induce to do the needful. (To your liking) For your info the Schooling finishes here at Level 12. (And Gr-7 and Gr-8 will be considered Middle school.) 9-10-11 & 12 are/will be based in a different school.

Good Luck.

Rentals..: 2BR. They run anywhere from 875 to a 1000/month. Most of them come with a Fridge and a Stove. Some charge you for Electricity.(Hydro). The rest is your concern, furnishing etc., There will parking for One Vehicle.

Thanks Canadian_Bhikari Guelph will be far from me.If thats the case then could have thought Milton too.
For the first six months I may not be able to drive as I am new to Canada from India and have to obtain license and Full house in fact I had already gone thru the links which you have sent and had decided based on that.I had shortlisted Greenfield avenue. But am not sure about the locality.
As you said better to settle off in one place and within a year find a decent locality based on our requirements.
Thanks a lot for all of your valuable suggestions. And any input in this regard further will be highly appreciated.

Kitchener has very few indians.
Greenfield avenue is to be avoided, as there used to be minor violence there (but that was 8 years ago). That area has a lot of shady charachters and drug addicts.

Move north to Belmont Avenue West. Bus service is there. I used to live in Belmont Ave.. School was nice too.

Guelph is too far.

Waterloo is a nice place. You can settle there. Avoid being near the universities as the rent near there is quite high.

Without a Car, Waterloo - Kitchener will be tough as population is thin and bus service is bad. When I was there bus service was not good and some Desi's without a good job and car used to walk 3 kms one way for shopping.
