So, what is BJP doing? They have a majority now, and are not Congis friends (or are they behind the scenes?) either. What's stopping BJP to bring perpetrators to book?

Return of the awards may be appeasement of the earlier rulers by the writers, scientists and intellectuals as these rulers had given them meteoric rise even for their modest work. But as the award was ultimately recognition by the people of India, it is nothing but insult to the people of India. And the government must suitably deal with those people.

How conveniently you involving BJP in this all
I am not involving BJP, for they are not a culprit here. However, as they have a majority, they are in a clear position to initiate a just inquiry and ensure a solid action. That's it.
Someone has to do something. Anything!
For the rest, you have a free will to think/assume anything you like.
When you bring up the topic of Award wapsi, you are dragging in BJP for sure ! Award winners are protesting the cow politics by BJP. Sikhs , in their own right are asking questions from congress supporters. Innocent Sikhs got lynched by congress leaders who wanted revenge for Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi's mom. Dalits are being lynched on the name of beef banned by BJP. Kids are burned over a cow in BJP reign.
From an outsider point of view, BJP is playing congress ( plus cow ).
*'plus cow' comment was inspired by recent rants by famous journalist A shorie.
Either they are bogus intellectuals who got their awards because they were close to power centers, or they have long stopped thinking, reading or writing. Just to show themselves off and fighting what they call "anti-intellectuals", they want to be seen as intellectuals. A case of someone fighting the wind mills.

The OPs post was a quick question to all the sleeping award returnees who have suddenly woken up for fear or losing recognition. Why do they have selective amnesia? Blaming the BJP for the award wapasi drama is like blaming Dhoni since Sachin did not score a century.
In today's India, if anyone wants instant fame, all they have to do is call a press conference and make an anti-BJP statement - the press and the social media will take it from there. No one will question your rationale for making such a statement.

I am non aligned with the award returnees as they have done what they have willed and they are entitled to it .... Kamal Hassan did not do it and provided his reasons for it and he is equally entitled to his opinion.
However personally I feel what ever may have been their (award returnees) motives , it may be unfair to accuse them that they did it for fame , as for one these people are already famous for their works and accomplishments and for two , it does not appear if they have any political ambitions ...
