I am reaching Toronto on 19th sept along with my Husband and a seven year old daughter. We are vegetarians. We are looking for a service apartment for 2 weeks near Mississauga or islington sub way as my husband will travelling to downtown. Please help me with this.

Near Islington Or Kipling subway station within TTC limits will be better, as you will pay only one fare . TTC buses and TTC Subway ( Metro ) are connected and take /need only one fare i.e TTC fare.

Mississauga Transit ( aka Mi Way ) also goes to Islington subway, but you will now have to pay 2 fares i.e TTC fare + Mississauga Transit fare . TTC is Toronto Transit and does not accept Mississauga Transit Fare and vice versa.

GO train and GO buses are another option. GO - Government of Ontario transit. Its better for long distance travel ( usually ), the fare is distance based. TTC and Mississauga Transit doesn't matter whether you go 1 Km or 50 Km its the same fare ! :)

Where in Downtown is he goin to work ? Location ? And I can tell you how much time and money it will cost him to get there, depending on TTC , Mississauga Transit and GO transit.

Happywoman36 likes to do Duniyadaari and will also cook FREE vegeterian food for you and will give you a service apartment in one of her properties..he he :) she is a multi-millionaire :)

You should also be concerned about your daughter's school, so live in close proximity to a good school. You can't pick and choose your school in Canada, it goes by postal code, so you HAVE to send her to the school in the close proximity of the area you live . Public schools as well as Catholic schools are FREE ! You don't even have to be catholic to go to. catholic school.

Aamchi Mumbai, Me Shivaji Raje Bhosale Boltoy, Bal Thackeray Zindabaad !

You don't even have to be catholic to go to. catholic school.

Adam,
Have they changed the rules recently? or are you saying that one of the parents pose as a fake catholic by taking the holy sacrement given at Catholic churches to enable their ward to attend Catholic schools?

In some areas outside the GTA, they did allow non catholic to attend Catholic shcool due to poor intake. BUt GTA is alwats fully crowded that they take only catholics for catholic schools.

Thans for the information. Actually my Husbands office will be in Queens Quay near Rogers Center. So please Suggest best location to live which is convenient to commute , has good school and has Indians around with Indian stores.

Looks like your husband is in IT and already has a job before coming here, so you are one of the lucky few.

Expect temps. Of 0 C during nights and around 15 C during day, during September and October in Toronto. So dress accordingly. So a range of 0-15 C with beautifual Fall colours :)

January and Feruary will be brutal with snow and close to - 20 C on some days.

Payal,
Try Davisville area or till Finch. (Many whites / european and chinese in this area). Shortest to your husband's office.
Your husband will have a direct train to his office.

If you live in Islington, you will see a lot of Indian's but most of them will be in labour jobs and the schools will reflect this standards. Also a lot of Middle eastern people.

Pucca mississauga (no trains there) reflect rich IT people and hard working labour people - living side by side.

Since it is public schools, I recommend living away from Desi's and may be in Davisville. SInce your hubby has a job, his collegues at office will help you settle down.

Yeah sorry, for elementary school you have to be catholic in GTA. But for secondary school they take just about anyone, if there is vacancy.

You don't need Indian stores, most mainstream grocery stores will carry Indian items at the same price or cheaper. Unless you are looking for extremely ethnic or hard to find Indian food items, you will have to go to an Indian store.

But 90 % of regular indian items will be found in the Indian aisle or international aisle of mainstream Canadian grocery stores. Only go to following grocery stores for cheap prices :

1. Food Basics.
2. No Frills.
3. Freschco
4. Wal Mart.

Loblaws, Sobeys and Metro are more expensive.

Your grocery cost will be $ 300 per month for 3 people if you mostly eat and cook at home. In this you will eat very well . You are vegetrian so your cost will be even less. You can even do it for $ 200 a month.

Rent will be around $ 1,000 to $ 1,200 for a nice decent 1 Bed Room apartment in a bldg. ..all inclusive. Renting a Condominium will be more expensive.

Do not live in a basement apartment to save a few bucks, too gloonmy and depressing especially in winter.
