Fido,
If the objective is green card, I will follow a different strategy that is less riskier (for me).

Appears either CDs are not interested in going South or the investor category is not a popular route ...
Or maybe the post was bigger than it should have been ... Have edited the title and the post now so as to seek only business/investment ideas .

It is 8 years vs 2 years JRF ... at 40+ , 6 years mean a lot to me ... though I do agree a life till now savings may be a big gamble .
Anyways , I am just juggling and validating this theory with CDs... it may turn out to be a no go in the end !!
Looking for business ideas as of now ..

I believe JRF was referring to the H1B route which has a GC waiting period of approx 8 years for EB2.

I myself was looking to apply for EB 5 visa. Somebdy mentioned if u hv 100k n can convince embassy of ur business proposal then, I might get visa. I wanna invest in a motel (outright purchase /franchise). It's better to land in USA and tke decision aftr staying for 6-8 mnths. Second business could be real estate or property investment but cannot manage properties till u hv proper visa. Third business could be gas station but investment is high here. I hv a friend who has 2 gas station in Atlanta. 3-4 partners can come together n invest. Even Baskin robins franchise is good business.

Revenge can be bitter sweet, but if u sit back and watch, KARMA can be pure entertainment.
US GC is a joke .
You will get taxed on your world wide income & investments & reveal ALL bank accounts, once you have a US GC or US Citizenship..irrespective of whether you live in US again or not & don't earn a penny in US.
Canadian taxation is based on RESIDENCY . US taxation is based on CITIZENSHIP/GC status.
So unless you give up your US GC or Citizenship , the US IRS ( CRA of US ) will keep on hounding you to file a return & pay taxes irrespective of where in the world you live & earn.
