Do you wonder why the NRE /NRO FDs are giving 8% or closer rate of interest and why the FCNR is giving just 2%. ??
Think - India can attract more FC if it raises it from 2% to 5% but it does not ... Why ???
The answer lies in depreciation of rupee ... I remember someone telling me that if you keep a dollar in a cupboard and invest the equivalent in Rupees FDR in India , after 5 years you will find that the rupee investment is lesser
AT has said it - depreciation of INR vs $ historically ... I recall in 2008 CAD was Rs. 42...In 2013 it was Rs. 56 .. Do the math will all the 6%+ vs 2%... as to where the value would be more .
I have considerable sums invested in India but in FCNRs (foreign currency as opposed to INR in NRE FD) ... A Bank Manager advised me not to take the exchange rate risk which can wipe out all the seemingly 3-4% increment which appears in the NRE/NRO accounts.

Modi is a political idol without a shadow of doubt. The nature of respect he commands throughout Gujarat is awe-inspiring. The only thing, he as improve on is Transparency. His links with few like Adani and Ambani remain as ambiguous as Mozart’s death. Moreover, the tall claims made about Gujarat, which fall apart when scrutinized, need to be explained. The rise in malnourishment of girl child, the slow poverty reduction rate, the poor state of health and education, presence of convicted ministers around him, the charges of false encounters etc. Everything remains unanswered. He has to focus on this more in future.
But no matter how much we try to bring out the negativities in him, we cannot miss the charisma he radiates. He is the finest manager of Indian media amongst all leaders. He has excellent organisational capabilities, dynamic personality and can motivate even a corpse to move with his powerful words, to name a few of his qualities. And the business stalwarts of the country (read Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani etc) seem to be in awe of him. The fact that GDP growth rate in Gujarat has been 11.05% over the past few years (a number that has been well publicised by the Gujarat government) as against the national value of 9% is something one cannot overlook. The looks of the power hubs of the state, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Surat have been turned upside down, leaving the other cities of the country gasping for breath. Gujarat is quickly turning into an economically and industrially ideal state, something which other states will look up to as an example. If we consider the aspect of a leader's willpower to bring positive changes in his/her constituency skipping the other attributes, then Narendra Modi undeniably stands out amongst his counterparts. But then again, there are a whole lot of other facets which need to be taken into consideration when we are talking about the most powerful face of the world's largest democracy.
The bottom line is, like most of the realistic political situations, it is extremely tough to take a side. The sine qua non for having a luxury to choose amongst suitable candidates is their availability, and the truth is that we don't have too many viable options in this regard. So, least we can do is give the charismatic leader 2 terms to prove himself. I think, he is the best leader for India for now.

Absolutely wrong. Do you know what the real definition of 'Leader' is? When they say India has been ruined for the the last 67 years, are they, when in absolute Power doing anything to reform even the most basic people centric issues? Forget about foreign policy and big yada yada yada for a moment.
He's yet another ever (fake) smiling, on a high words, media centric Politician. Leader is too strong a word for the current crop of Politicians, regardless of who we are talking about - Modi, Kejriwal, and/or their ilks.
I would still wait for another 4 years to see if something good for common man is in the offing - Reforms for the Judiciary, Police, Bureaucracy, Government/Public offices, Bribery, Basic and affordable education, Health, housing (sans slums) with more transparency in the Governance is the need of the hour.
So far, BJP Govt. has acted just as the erstwhile UPA. They have little to show for, except foreign visits, Mann ki 'badi badi' baatein on TV and Social Media.
Let's wait and watch.

Winning hearts of liberals in India will remain an uphill task for him. He is efficient multi-tasked’ person and his focus on embracing newer technologies has overall been positive for him and the BJP. He has cultivated a reputation of being a ‘master propagandist’ and wants each of his action and activity on camera to be discussed and consequently publicised as much as possible. Image conscious as he is, he pays special attention to his attire. These traits set him apart from his political rivals.
