Trans-fat to get banned in US

FDA has given food manufactures 3 years to remove trans-fat from the items they produce. They have removed the classification of "generally recognized as safe" for trans fat. Food industry likes using trans fat because it increases the shelf life of products and oil becomes stable as it is converted to solid. Not a great thing for health though as this type of trans fat is a man-made fat and its effects are mostly negative.

This is no move on Canada's part, at least yet.

Where it gets confusing though is that dairy products have naturally occurring trans fats which is different from man-made fats using hydrogenation process.

Trans fats have always been scary. Good for US. Now, only if Canada is left with some sanity to take the same step.
