One infact makes more progress career/social/financial wise by owning a home than rent. That's my personal analysis.

why rent the basement then ? ..if you want to have a better lifestyle ?..your lifestyle will be much better & more privacy & security, when you don't have tenants in your basement.

I see desis buying houses & then renting their basement & other areas in their house ..and their house becomes a pig sty after some time. But greed makes them rent their basement :(..& they are willing to give up their lifestyle for that :(

Their houses are worse than some rental apartments due to the abuse by the basement tenants :(

Desis often buy houses they can't even afford with the intention of throwing another desi & his family in their basement.

Only one property tax comes from the house, but 2-3 families live there & use garbage services, free education , fire, police , transit, library most of which are funded through property tax etc ..3-4 cars parked on the garage, some even on the lawn :( ..the whole neighbourhood gets destroyed due to these basement apartments :(

Welcome to Brampton, Etobicoke, Mississauga, and last but not the least Surrey, BC.

When I was new to the country and wanted a place to rent, there was an advert online for some rental basement. I went in, and found out this house (Etobicoke) was owned by some Desi. Now, this house must had been not more than 1200sq. ft., basement included. The basement didn't even have a seperate entry, and the way in was from the living room. Of-course, I didn't like the idea so never pursued it.

Then, I thought how these people with only 1000sq. ft to themselves and someone living literally in their living room could afford a quality lifestyle? Why not simply rent a decent 2 bedroom condo instead of buying a dingy so-called house. So much for owning a piece of land and a fake prestige.

Milton is going to be another Mississauga , 5 years from now.

If you are planning to move there , move there now or you will miss the boat all over again as far as GTA market is concerned.

A semi-detached or town house is still within reach in Milton. Anything close to GO station is good :)

IT market is the same as rest of Canada. If you have the skills & experience getting a job in IT is NO big deal in GTA.

Your salary will be the same or Higher in GTA for IT as the rest of the country. They will easily match your salary over here or even pay you higher if you are in IT . Lot of banks here, which need IT guys & Finance guys. Lot of IT jobs in the city, hospitals, public sector, school boards too :)

Lot of companies in Mississauga too hiring for IT . Milton to Mississauga will be a breeze.

Mississauga is NO longer a bed room community and a suburb of Toronto , its now the sixth largest city in Canada population wise.

More people now come into Mississauga from Toronto to work than the other way round. ..Airport is also in Mississauga.

Other suburbs are NOT like that in GTA , more people from those suburbs still GO into Toronto for work than the other way round.

Thanks adamthorat,

I am aware of these facts to some extent. Also, Milton house prices have been booming like anything.

Not sure, if I would like to move as the house prices in GTA seem to be the same as in the far away burbs of Vancouver. That's my insurance, if nothing else work out here in BC. Two strong reasons that are keeping me away from GTA - Car insurance and Winters. Both of them are a breeze here in Vancouver. :).

I will check it out next week on my planned visit to Toronto.

Absolutely .. but for some , love of money is paramount.

BTW ..Milton is gaining notoriety because of a community's dominance by numbers.

How about Aurora or Kleinburg or even Whitby ??

One has to understand that just like u love ur job, we hv passion for properties. Don't lift ur fingers on others, atleast we are not throwing our children at the mercy of child care. We are bringing up our children by putting efforts and closely monitoring them so that they don't go into drugs or get involved with wrong crowd. Majority here are forcing their wives to work in offices which is a crime when children are small. One of the spouse has to be always there for their children. As such child care is very expensive affair so my advise is let mothers handle homefront coz our children future is more important than saving spouse salary. unless Men are working labour job and earning $1600 pm then it's necessary to send wives to work but if u are earning 60k plus then it's not necessary to force ur wife to work unnecessarily. :(

Quite a point.
Renting your own basement, you compromise really a lot, a lot as far my friends say....

There are two areas in Mississauga (Im much familiar with) that are still close to Highways and pretty calm, green / natural still fairly priced (in comparison with much crowded area).

1. Levi Creek area (where Danthorpe street runs, not around the Levi creek school), go check the house layout, you will feel good about it. A 4 bedroom detached is close is 700+k range.

2. Old Meadowvale village (second phase), 2500 SQFT detached is again around 750K. As the house size grows larger, the price increases.

Drive around and see how you feel.
