Dear Friends,
Just want to know which documents i am supposed to carry always with me while going out. Should i carry originals or photocopies are fine. Actually with each passing day i have gathered so much of cards (PR, SIN, Library, debit, visa and so on) that it is hard to carry all of them all the time. Further how about the car documents. Should i carry my original ownership / registration and original insurance with me. I have got a bunch of papers from my insurance company, which part of that insurance should i keep always with me. Thanks
Generally everyone carries a SMART PHONE. Some even have a case. The ones that I have seen people use are made of good leather. That will protect the phone and what ever you want to carry.
In the case there is room for couple of cards. Make one a Driver's License. The second one your health card. Also along with the AUTO Insurance policy, you get TWO or more pink slips. (It has been always pink in colour as long as I can remember.) cut one and slip it into the Smart Phone case.
Now you are ready to go anywhere you want to go.
As a back up you can carry your WORK ID, credit, Debit, Library, PR, SIN, Bus Pass, (Not for you)Bank Account Access, and a Family Picture. (I also carry a Hundred at the start of the month. It becomes a Five Spot at the end of the month)
A Dollar shop Coin Purse with change in coins for the Parking Meters. (It all depends where you park and what is the smallest denomination the meters demand.
These THREE pouches I look for PLUS the KEYS for the Kingdom to get out of the door. If i am going to work, then my GRUB BAG, either a brown paper bag, or my Lunch Box. Currently a ten cent bottle of water too.
Any News paper that I get if i get a chance to glimpse at the lunch hour. Also any surprise for my co-workers, if it is home made. (Some will refuse)
So, there you have it.
FH.
I remember an incident where a person crossed the border with his picture of his Passport taken with his camera on the Smart Phone. (May be there was a Picture of the Visa too!!) So, the smart phone can substitute for a lot of cards and important documents too. But Don't ever lose it.
Normally I keep copy of required documents in my car . I laminated driving licence on one side and health card on other side 2 in 1 . Also I keep all documents scanned and email so any time I can open email and show them .
DL , OHIP card and insurance pink slip and car ownership/registration paper.
One thing you can avoid carrying is SIN card unless you anticipate the need for it for employment purposes. These days it is given only in paper format. Though some will accept SIN card as second piece of ID, try to avoid using it as ID. See https://www.priv.gc.ca/resource/fs-fi/02_05_d_02_e.asp" target="_blank">https://www.priv.gc.ca/resource/fs-fi/02_05_d_02_e.asp</a>
Also try to avoid using debit card at unfamiliar places. Use cash or credit card. Credit cards usually have fraud protection. Debit cards also have fraud protection but you may have to wait for the bank to resolve the issue but the money is gone from your account instantly if fraud happens.

I have switched from carrying the fat big regular wallet in my hip pocket to a leather card / change pouch which is much smaller and helps me carry
a. DL
b. Health Card
c. Credit Card
d. Debit card ( the one I carry does not have a huge balance )
e. Library Card - You never know when you might need it .
f. Bus Pass
g. $20 Bill for that emergent purchase where credit / debit is not needed or advised .
h. Of course the Insurance Pink slip which is tucked in the coins area along with the $20 bill.
