I have my own car and want to make money though it. I have heard a lot about Uber these days. can i join them with a car that i have bought for a pleasure drive and not for commercial use. Besides what are other ways that can help me make some money through my car. Thanks
Whn we were staying in our condo, a senior couple used to leave school children to school in their van and earn $2500-3000 pm. U hv to stay in a bldg whre max children go to nearby school within 1.2 km.
There are many ways to earn. for eg : The driver who taught me driving is a private driver who is all rounder. He is very good teacher, taught me driving in 3-4 classes. first day, he taught me parallel, emergency, down hill and uphill and 3 point turn. He puts driving school board when he is giving lesson and other times, taxi board and he also drives to Niagara/Ottawa and Montreal and bring u back same day. He charges $180 for one day for 4 people.
Another case is a guy frm Hyderabad who came here 2 yrs back who works in sales couldn't find job till 3 months back so, he used to deliver pizza/burger etc during weekend and work in car rental during weekdays. He told me he got good tips and made $3000 cash (No tax) but once he was robbed of his entire days money when he went to deliver pizza.

You would need a commercial insurance to sign for Uber.
When I was in Canada, Uber was not there. So I canot count on it.
But let me tell you other ways to make money :
1. Be a Pizza Delivery boy. You would need GPS /Road map. - Best as I know of.
2. Be a wine delivery boy. You will be on call. - Very less salary.
3. Drive CD's parents / rich immigrants to Niagra falls (advertize in CD classified / Kijiji). - Very less chance
4. Get local contacts and help them to go for shopping / medical appointments etc.. Donot be shy in getting money from them. - Will not be that much a income generator.
5. Buying and selling : From the road get some thrown out stuff. CLean it and put it for sale in Kijiji. Some old people will ask you to deliver it. Get a delivery charge + cost of the equipment. In the past I have sold furniture, vessels, toys. Or go to some garage sale where they sell good stuff for 25 cents. Buy and sell through Kijiji with offer of delivery - The second best income generator.

Rush delivery/pick ups. Besides their regular delivery/pick ups, sometime companies get urgent deliveries/pickups of packages to they have someone on call basis.
Call Uber to know their requirements. I heard that the Toronto taxi drivers business is impacted as new Uber drivers are eating out a large chunk of their business. You only need a smart phone with data plan.

I think Uber has certain requirements for a car, it cannot be older than certain years. You can check with Uber about that. Also anybody can join Uber, so there will be a ton of competition. The more you wait for a ride, the less money you make. Insurance again is a grey area as already mentioned.

If what Raj Canada says is true, then I donot think that Uber can be beneficial to you.
You will wait for calls and it may not come. Calls may come when you have given up and least expect it.
Always try to get a steady flow of income, like pizza delivery friday night to sunday night. It will help you plan your recreation with family too.
Uber is for people who have money but no job to do and so that just join uber while taking welfare.

Why would you think of pizza delivery and Uber just after you land ?
