How long can one stay in India without surrendering Indian Citizenship after acquiring Canadian Citizenship?
I understand there is a grace period of 3 months for travel to India on Indian Passport without surrender of Indian Passport.
Can one travel on Indian passport after acquiring Canadian citizenship within 3 months of acquiring Canadian Citizenship and surrender Indian Citizenship while in India and obtain OCI in India?
Please guide.
No one cannot travel on Indian passport after getting Indian Citizenship. The grace period is written on the website, but one can't hold Indian passport if one holds passport of any other country. Here comes the problem.
During citizenship ceremony, one's PR card is taken away and one needs passport to enter Canada. There won't be any problem while entering India as you would enter on Indian passport, however while exiting India you will show Canadian Passport and at that time they will see how you entered India, and then they will know that you hold two passports which will be a crime and then will start host of problems and you will be detained.
So never do that. You are better off going on Visitor visa. Modi is visiting Canada soon and as per the trend he should make visa on arrival for Canadians when he visits here:-) If the travel is not urgent, get OCI and then go.
Thanks Vivek,
If I Surrender my Indian passport In India and get OCI in India will it still be a problem while returning from India.
Thanks

Once you acquire Canadian Citizenship it is illegal to travel on an India passport - period
I may sound rude, but as vivek has mentioned, don't attempt that.
After acquiring your Canadian Citizenship, the correct process would be:
1. Apply for Canadian passport
2. Apply for Surrender Certificate (by surrendering your Indian pp)
3. Apply for either OCI or Indian visitor visa
4. Travel to India
