What is the maximum undeclared amount of cash one can carry?

Dear friend,
If I carry around CAD 9000 as cash, would I be declaring it at the airport or no need for that. Secondly, we are given a immigration card in the flight to fill, with value and money that we are carrying, if I put this amount there, ...would it be fine of I should not carry that big amount as cash and better wire it to my canadian account. Thanks

As far as I know, the first time you land you can bring unlimited cash.
I would not want to bring in to Canada more than what is being allowed. Generally no one will check. Bring in draft the amount that is allowed legally and carry the rest in cash or have it wired to your Canadian account.
As far as I know, any amount less tha $ 10000 is insignificant for Canadian authorities.
if you wish to avoid tax (if at all), go through the hawala method (not that I am recommending it or going to give you more info. on that but ask your friends in Saudi about this route)

When you say 'WE' are given a CARD to fill with all of the details, please bear in mind that there are others who are also traveling with you to the same destination. If it is your family you are talking about, then, you are totally responsible for the card or the form you will be filling.
So, please make sure that you ADD all of the dollars that you and the rest of the family in the group are carrying on them, because they only give ONE CARD, per family. So, you being the Head of the family are resaponsible for all of the details in the card, in which you declare all of trhe things that you have on you prior to landing.
Say if some one bought a watch in flight or in the Duty Free shop, then add all of the dollars spent on your purchases and fill in the total number of dollars spent on the total amount spent, by all of you in the group. (Clothes, souvenirs, nick knacks, Alcohol, and cigars and cigarettes and all of the items that you BOUGHT and BRINGING BACK with you from the trip. I know you landed here once and so, now you are a RETURNING IMMIGRANT. There is an exemption amount for each traveler and it is also based upon the length of time you were away from Canada.
We all tend to carry some spices etc., such as cinnamon bark, Tej Patta, et all and these are spices and they are not allowed, because they are not from a certified seller or was approved for sale by the government of the country, from where you bought it. It is a BANNED Substance here in Canada, so avoid carrying it. There is fine of $800 or so on such trivial amount of substance that you are carrying. More over they are available here in this market. It is good to leave it out of your baggage.
Some times we buy chocolates, cookies etc., to eat while sitting and spending a lot of hours between flights at an intermediate stop, if it is not a DIRECT Flight between two points. These items if not eaten completely or finished, discard the balance of the food right in the waiting area and clear yourself all of the food that you have you. NO Eatable Materials are allowed to be imported. I have picked up a hand full of candies many a times, when the Hostess walks in with a tray full of it . I was wrong in carrying them into the terminal, because it is also considered as food stuff. Since it is the law, I want to tell you that you should avoid all of these extravagant things. Some times we forget a few small items.
Yes, we all have a COMFORT Level when we carry a lot of CASH on person, I know it shows as a Stress on our face. Also if it is LOST in between start and landing, then there is NO ONE to Blame for it. So, it is always safe to carry a Demand Draft from a Bank that has a branch here in Canada where you live, or going to live. The Card shown here under calls for ALL of the CASH that you have on you and that is the TOTAL of all the Money that WHOLE Family carries on them. So, please ask and get the details before you fill in the form. Upto a total of $10,000 Canadian, they will waive you through. Not that you cannot carry more. You can BRING IN as many dollars or any other currency put to gether, but you should be in a position to show, where you got it from, such as bank withdrawal slip, (A COPY OF WILL DO) or a Pass book from the Bank where you with drew the amount from and exchanged it. All of these are legal formalities and be prepared to authenticate all of these transactions, if and when it calls for, but it should be on the spot, so that you are on top of it. They will clear you ALL with a smile and a SALUTE too. Thats the way to go. BE Clean and Straight to the POINT.

If its $ 10,000 or more you HAVE to declare , otherwise you DON'T have to. So anything that totals $ 10,000 or more like cheques, bank drafts, travellers cheques, bonds ,cash etc..if the addition is more than $ 10,000, you HAVE to declare it..see the card below.

Even if its a penny more than $ 10,000 you have to declare it , so $ 9,000 CAD cash is fine as long as you have NO other monetary instruments on you like cheques, drafts , travellers cheques, some other currency etc.
FH, thanks for the detailed reply. My kids like Saudi shawarma. So shouldn't I be freezing and caring it anymore now. Cuz I carried it last time and it reached in good shape, they really enjoyed it. Just tick mark on the card that you are bringing some food item..so when/if they ask you, you can casually menttion it. Usually they will waive you through. Atleast they can't say you lied.
If you don't mention it on the card & if you get caught, there will be a BIG fine for it.
Ofcourse they might not catch you..& will never check your bag..& you can sneak through , just like you did last time.
But do you really want to take that chance ?
My friend bought some Indian sweets ( Mithai ) , as you know it usually carries milk..so he just ticked marked the card ( dairy products ) ..& when asked he told them he has some Indian candies..& they just waived him through
