Hi CD friends,
My grand daughter, born in India, but acquired canadian citizenship, , I need to apply for her OCI, any idea on how much time does it take to acquire the OCI ?

Roughly 2-3 months after your Indian Passport is cancelled which may be 1 - 1.5 months.
You should be looking at a total of 3-4 months for both the processes.
Unlike PIO for OCI at least one of the parents needs to be a foreign citizen.

If I understand your question correctly, your daughter and grand daughter both are canadian citizens currently in India. If applying for OCI in India, the standard time frame is 4-5 weeks (sometimes earlier).
If the kid is in Canada, then the OCI time line is 6-8 weeks.

She is planning to be here for about 3 months, is the time OK to get the OCI procedure done, as she shall be coming with a return ticket, her days are kind of limited?
She has no Indian passport to cancel though, as she is acquiring canadian passport as her only travel document .
Alternatively can I simply get her Indian visa when she goes back, and she can then apply for her OCI from within india?

What about your daughter - did she have an India Passport and is it cancelled ... Folks at BLS ask all kind of information and Passports ...you would wish to avoid a situation where they insist on getting an Indian Passport of the parent cancelled first .
Otherwise 3 months should be more than enough the time for her to get the OCI here .. in my experience ironically it is better and more efficient to get things done in India from abroad than in India itself.
Book an online appointment in advance with BLS though .... They get filled very soon .

yes , her mother , my daughters , Indian passport stand cancelled, does she need to carry the cancelled Indian passport here?

Assuming your grand daughter is currently in India waiting for the start of her trip to Canada, what is her status there? Since she has a Canadian PP, does she have an indian visitor's/entry visa? In your shoes I would prefer to do it from India after returning back to India - you all should just enjoy her time 3 months here.
