Hi All,
We're (my wife & I) traveling to Halifax on 3rd March.
1. I'm speaking to some real estate agencies for 1 Bedroom or Studio Apartments in the downtown area. Is 900-1000 CAD a correct rent amount in the Downtown area? Any leads will be helpful.
None of the apartments come with utensils, beds, internet or TV.
2. Should we carry utensils along with us from India or is it better to buy locally? If we should buy locally where to buy from to get a good deal in the Downtown area.
3. Where to buy beds & mattresses from?
4. Are there any Wifi hotspots in Downtown area? How expensive is internet? Where to buy from?
5. What about mobile phone connection? What plan and from where to buy? Will need to make both local and ISD calls. Is it cheaper to use Viber or Skype?
6. How expensive is a TV? How expensive is cable? Where to buy from?
7. Will Indian electrical or electronics items work in Canada?
Thanks for helping.

Wonder why you selected downtown area for living?
Where will be your workplace , Halifax ? Bedford ? or are you there for studies ?
I would suggest stay temporarily in either a guest house or a sub let ( if available - people sublet completely furnished condos some times) .
This will help you in scouting different areas for renting and judge your comfort levels for eg Bedford , Clayton Park , down town or Dartmouth.
March - don't expect a lot of movement till say April - May due to snow ...
