This great Director who was recipient of the ultimate Dada Saheb Award, who dared to be different, who was not afraid of commercial success, who unearthed great talent like Kamal and Rajni has passed away at 84. We in TN feel some relative/friend has died though we may not be even known to him.
Great loss to Indian film industry. Our condolences to his family.

He silently caused a many revolution among women. Many stand to disagree due to exposing extra marital affairs in most of his movies. His movies (during the black and white years) emphasize a much needed self esteem.

The cowards never started,
The weak died on the way,
Only the strong arrived.

Very interesting observation made was that Rajnikanth and his daughter were there at the crematorium for more than 2 hours. Rajnikanth even got to put Vaiiku Arisi ("Vaaiku Arisi" (rice provided to a person who has passed as part of the funeral rituals) is brought by the visitors to rid themselves of pain and suffering at death and to attain moksha) to KB. Usually family put this to their near and dear.
While the other protege Kamalhassan stayed back in Los Angeles to complete his movie Uthama Villian.
Money talks the word called Gratitude does not seem exist in the dictionary of UlagaNayagan.

Since you mentioned about KB last rites, very sad to say the behaviour of film fans and some insensitivity on the part of celebrities made the occasion more sorrow.
Firstly, apart from those who were very close relatives or family friends other celebrities who knew KB only as professional colleague need not have gone to the ghat. Their presence basically created unmanageable crowd disturbing and even preventing the last rites to be conducted. KB's son and the priests were seen pushed around by a big crowd in a small place. They could have got hurt.
Having gone there the celebrities should have paid the last respects and restrained themselves by quietly staying in one corner. They should have left conducting the event to the 'professionals' usually available for these activities and who come along with the priests.
Instead, to get centre stage, more than ten of the celebrities stood around the glass box, shouting and vigorously shaking their hands and showing it in ten different directions as to what should be done next.
The fans crowd proved basically what they are by waving at TV cameras as if they had come to attend screening of cinema in theatre. Some of them could be seen using their mobile phones which was most despicable. If they had more important work to complete over their mobile phones they need not have come there at all.
Harsh but true, film fraternity could have avoided the insult to the professionalism exhibited by KB when he was alive.
