Few questions,
1. Is hp and dell, both are same or dell is better !
2.Are refurbished desktops reliable !
3. Is it good to buy a refurbished from a renowned outlet or can be taken from people selling privately from homes in case the price is low !
4. I want to do multitasking and AutoCAD, what specifications would suite me the best, also pls tell the monitor size!
5. Where can I get the best deal, don't necessarily need a new one, but a good condition old one will also do!

Thanks

As you know, some companies do merge, but their products are not the same. Also, if you are looking for used materials, then they are always different to each other.

Currently CORE 2 DUO is a standard for Stand alone, Tower, Mini, or a Desk Top. But the Memory is what makes it work better. Also the Operating Systems with updates will make it run even better. None of these come with a OS CD. So, you will be at the mercy of the sellers. MEMORY has to be Minimum 4 GB and the HD at least 250GB. but they all sell either a 80 or 160 GB HD. So you will have to buy an External portable 1-2 TB for $69/99. The cheapest Desktop is at $110 and they are refurbished. What I saw was miserable ones, they were not even cleaned inside by air. But they do work well for a couple of years. And if you know how to maintain and take care, then it might work a lot longer.

The monitors, used ones, run anywhere from $39-$79. They will last an year or more depends upon the turnover of the seller.

You can try FORTUNE or the TECHSOURCE. There is also FACTORY DIRECT . They all are so so and I have been living with their services.

1) http://www.fortunecomputer.com/index.php/main/WeeklyFlyer
2) http://www.techsourcecanada.ca/store/flyer.html
3) http://www.factorydirect.ca/

For AUTO CAD and CADCAM etc., you should get a LAP TOP i5 USED with 4GB Memory 250 GB Hard Drive for about 250 tax free. I use one. OS Windows 7, 64 bit, 4GB Mem. I am also at the mercy of the seller for the OS and the Office.

Hope this helps.

Some times, you will find good ones for very cheap in Flea Markets ... particularly if you know how to fix small things or do some upgrades.

Hasni:
Just buy a new computer. Donot get refurbished ones. Laptop is one top investment that you need for success in Canada. Dec. 26th is boxing day where you will get 30% or more discount, if you are prepared to go to a store early (may be best buy, Future shop, Tiger or Walmart).
With internet and googling, you can get to know many free services that is available for immigrants like you in Canada.

These THREE Box Stores do not sell Used/Refurbished computers, because their policy is to sell New ones with the Manufacturer's warranties. So, we are out of luck there.

The Dell is slightly ahead of HP here in Canada.(Toronto) Also they do have reconditioned machines BUT with No Operating System Installed. They will install it at a reduced cost. But if you buy your Own will cost you another 100 bucks plus tax. Windows 8 is the latest, but i have not used it or got the hang of its advantages. But it is great with touch screen and those machines cost a ton more currently.

With AMD Quadcore, some of them are six core also, I find that there is a great clarity in the video features and a better chance of adding a 3D card or with a software could produce good drawings and illustrations with 3D features. Core 2 Duo's does not permit this. So, now I am into a used i5 laptop, sufficient to get me into good prints and also makes it portable when I have to move around with it. That is for starters. Some of the other plans are slow to take off and I am slowly building it.

Everything takes time. So, make a wish list and slowly work for it.

FH.

Just to add, if you will be relying on Tech support to resolve the PC issues, you might want to consider Dell since they have better support than HP. Not sure where you are located, if you know someone who can assemble PC, going custom made will give you more bang for your buck. But if you want PC for basic use, just go with any pre-build.
