I just got RIFed from my position from a company that I was with for last 5+ years. Where can I find additional information around skill upgrade, EI benefit etc.?
Are there any drawbacks of applying for EI?

Welcome to the club.
Nothing wrong in getting EI. Apply soonest. However, you shoudl prove that you were let go by the company instead of you doing silly thing (watching porn, sexual harrasement) and getting fired. EI officials are with the you only, but you need to handle it correctly.
next available option is to file for second career courses. Process can take more than 6 months.
be frugal and save money.
