There is nothing is false above, everything true and i have proof,
I just wanted to share and spread positive message among new immigrants , and its very true,
I have just one line for the people who speak bad about canada

"jinhe Nachna nahi aata unhe Aangan hamesha tedha lagta hain"
Finally if you cant live in one place, you can never live in any place,

Mani_Flowers,

Your story would be very much encouraging !
Keep the real life positive experience coming and let us increase immigration to Canada.
Remember that greater immigration means more people paying taxes, paying rent, paying for food, buying houses, funding the healthcare system, CPP, Ei etc... So it pays for us to increase immigration.

Great Mani flowers. no matter where ever you are you need to be optimistic and give it the best shot. I had landed with my family from Dubai in october 2013 . i started a small way as a salesman in a furniture store as a salesman on commission and then moved on to a multinational co as a sales representative selling photocopiers.I had worked there for a year and i currently work as a territory sales in charge for a food stuff company in Toronto. My wife started working in a bank in January 2013 on a 6 month contract job . On completion she got a full-time job in a multinational co as a customer service rep. Iam happy with cash on hand and looking forward to buying our first home in next 3 months or so with 5% down.

No regrets for moving to Canada from Middle east where i had lived for 15 years.

I am in IT (No Engg. degree, but Commerce/MBA), but took me about 2 years to land in an IT job of my liking - believe it or not. I already knew that the immigration would bring itself lots of struggle so I was full prepared before my move. Never found myself surprised/shocked by doing the odd jobs (it was only one at Tim Hortons).

January, 2005: Originally from Delhi, landed with only $250 in my pocket coupled with the dreams and a positive attitude to start afresh. Was single. Although brought about $10,000 that I borrowed from a relative, which I gave back in a week's time after landed. Stayed with my uncle's family for 6 months in Etobicoke. Alyways thankful to them for all their help. Was treated great (even like a king at times) and just like a family. Always helped them with their household chores and made a point to never be an interference in their usual/daily schedules and life.

- February, 2005: Took a job at Tim Hortons (Derry/Rexwood) for $7.75/hr. Worked my A off.
- March, 2005: Started working at a call centre in Etobicoke - $11/hr (40 hrs a week).
- August, 2005: Earned and saved some money. Eventually moved out of my uncle's house and rented a basement at Derry/Mavis (Semi-detached) for $450/month.
- Nov, 2005: Moved to Vancouver (Out of sudden, yes. Don't ask me the story - some other time) - Started working at some Desi's ecommerce Flower company in the Data Processing deptt. Pay $10.75/hr.
- January, 2006: Found a job at a renowned ecommerce company with full benefits. My first mainstream job. Started earning $15/hr, but worked graveyard shifts, so made about $18/hr with shift premium.
- April, 2007: Was ready to move back to Toronto due to the dearth of IT jobs. But, as luck would have it, received an interview call from one of the three big Telecom companies based in Vancouver. I made through to what I wanted. Started making about >50k/yr. Forgone the thoughts of moving back to Toronto.
- January, 2008: Bought my first home in Canada. Now married.
- June, 2012: Landed in a way better opportunity in a Crown Corp. Couldn't be happier with the pay grade. Planning on the house upgrade.

Despite of the above, I still find myself disillusioned with the immigration, and more often dream about how life would've been in India (better). Can't get out of being dillusional.

On the career front, can't complain about ANYTHING. Love my job and the way my career is progressing. Yes, I am in IT, but contrary to popular belief I too had to struggle for the initial 2 years. The best part was and as mentioned above, I was prepared for this struggle; and that I was single, even though was very much penniless.

So far, Canada never treated me bad in any areas. People/Management at work have been more supportive in all the jobs I have so far taken up, and if I compare it with my 7 years stint in India. Have a great work-life balance.

But, Delhi in particular, and India in general are special :). Might want to return back one day - may be to retire. If only God willing and situations are favourable.

Gr8 stories shared here.I guess at least some one will benefit from it.I got benefited from this forum by following it before I landed in Canada although I never contributed to it much. I still remember one of my post 2 years back asking about the job prospects of a mechanical engineer.I got scared from the replies that I received from tamil kuruvan and couldn't sleep for days thinking that whether I am making the right move or not.I should thank him because of his honest replies I prepared my self to face the worst and made some good moves and research before I moved here .

Here is my story, I am mechanical Engineer with 7 years experience in India and my wife is a Computer science graduate without any experience.

1. Landed in - June 2012 along with my wife.

2. Profession -Mechanical Engineer (computer aided engineering/finite element analyst)

3. Money brought in - CAD 14000

4. First job - After one month joined a ware house job for $ 10.25 (My plan is to conserve my savings in case I have to go back and with god's grace I didn't had to)

5. first professional job - after exactly one month landed in my profession (CAE Engineer) as contractor with a major Automotive company with same roles and responsibilities at $33/hour.
---wife got a job in customer care with TD bank at $ 15/hour. left her job after 8 months and enrolled in college to pursue software engineering.

6. Current job ...same company contract renewed with $ 41/ hour

7. Amount in hand when professional job got - CAD 10000

8.lured by fellow desis to join Amway but I know about amway and never interested in those.Never gave a chance to any one to cheat me.

9. First major event in life - blessed with a baby boy on this new year

10. Personal conclusion - if you are determined, better prepared, willing to take risks, of course with gods grace one can enjoy his life in Canada.I am not talking about success. To me success is subjective and differs from person to person.

coincidentally I am following happy woman's recipe.

All the best to every one.God bless Canada.God bless desis.

Something that appeared recently on Redflagdeals.com. It seems to have some relationship with the topic that we are discussing.

I don't know if this thread is suitable for this category, but since it has everything to do with jobs/career, I thought I would post it here.

It's quite long so bare with me.

In 2009, my family immigrated to Toronto from Malaysia. We were so excited and happy to start our new life here. I was 19 and my sister was 17 at that time. Little did we know that that was the beginning of our misery.

My dad was a lawyer in Malaysia and had been trying to re-qualify and pass the law exams for years. Not surprisingly, just like any other skilled immigrants who came to Canada, after months of searching for jobs, my parents resorted to working labour jobs to support us. My dad work as a security guard during the day and study for the law exams at night. However, he did not manage to pass the exams and had been working as a guard ever since. In order to cover the household expenses, my mum had to work as a nanny.

Fast forward to 2014, I finally graduated from university and my sister is in her final year at U of T. However, it has been really difficult for me to find a decent job (not fast food/retail) in Toronto (it has been 3 months and I am still jobless). To make things worse, my parents are getting older by the day and would not be able to continue their labour jobs any longer. The burden is on me and my sister to get a good job so that we can support the family (get a decent apartment and support my parents' retirement). However, my sister has decided to go for a 2 years masters degree in Montreal, so now the burden is on me to get a job that can support the whole family.

It is really stressful and depressing when I think about the situation we are in right now. How many part time jobs would it take for me to support my family? Even if I manage to get an entry level business related job, there is no way that I can make enough to support the whole family.

I feel really sad every time I think about this. The whole purpose of moving to Canada was to provide a better life (education, opportunities) for me and my sister. But now, everything is turned upside down. It has been going on for years and I thought I should type it all out to get it off my chest. I am not asking for answers here, as I know it is pretty much a hopeless situation. But if you guys have any inputs, feel free to comment.
