Good post by gktaurus.
TK - I have to wonder whether your first post on this thread is a result of the mindset exhibited on the second post or vice-versa.
People can draw their own conclusions, but given the image your project on this forum, it is safe to say that yours is an extreme edge case and would not apply to most people. This is not to say that people don't struggle here in Canada or go back to India, they certainly do. But no one I know reacts to situations or draws conclusions the way you do. You might mean well, but the healthy dose of absurdity mixed in with the "no-filter" expression approach would clearly not bode well in interviews/employment here. It's hard enough to stomach it on this anonymous forum.
Looks like that is not an issue in India and you're happy with your job there. I'm glad for you in that, but don't think its fair to blame Canada if things didn't work out for you.

Are you there?
Guys,
You must have heard that I always have said that IT and Finance has lots of potential in Canada. Some have accepted it (Febpreeth) and some have rediculed it (many to mention).
I am producing below a mail that I received from a Pakistani HR teacher who has a P hd. in HR studies and was teaching at a Pak university. He was with me when I did SAP HR.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
Going through this post I thought I should put in my story
Background Electrical Engineer with several years of manufacturing experience in Projects, Maintenance and Production management.
Had landed in 2009 via middle east. As advised by some friends continued in Middle East job till the last day allowed (balance 730 days).
After moving for good last year joined for SAP course in MM/PM. With in 4 months after moving back for good, got a permanent job in Canada's largest pharmaceutical company in the Eng dept.
Was ready to start few steps lower, but had to start only one step lower. Happy so far. It is true that you can't save much in Canada, but I was not looking for savings, was on the look out for an environment where there was no discrimination by race or nationality. My experience here so far is much better than what I had in the middle east (Saudi Arabia)
Eldest son graduated in electrical eng and got job. Second son pursuing BBA, accounting in UOFT. I consider the following as reasons for my success so far
1. Eng back ground with good hands own experience from middle east in a multinational company
2. Did trades person License (442A) as advised by ftfl (I did not have to work as trades person so far)
3. Enrolment in SAP as I found SAP is being used in most of the large manufacturing firms in North America
3. Believing in myself
4. Good English communication skills with good accent
5. Came with enough savings, not to get into survival jobs

TK,
This post is from GG. Apparently most of the people who did well were from engg background.
You seem to be looking for reasons to complain for your own shortcomings. A lot of us had been through this situations. Many times I explained you those how many sales / engg / pharma folks have done well, you seem to ignore this.
I guess you were looking for many to jump in this thread and crib about this country, unfortunately this did not happen.
While it is true that I have my own concerns of raising my family plus leaving my elders back home, it doesn't mean the problems do not exist in India or elsewhere. Its a forum, you could vent your frustration but what we are trying to disagree is your opinions are not completely right.
I've lived in money rich, tech rich, weather rich and after all my own native town. I would still say "Canada (GTA at least, as that is what I know ) has the best balance on everything....
God bless Canada...

Maybe because I am in the software industry but I don't agree with this. The companies I have worked for have hired so many immigrants myself being one. In fact we are seriously considering hiring someone from India directly.
I think the biggest issue for immigrants is good English communication and fitting into the culture. Once that happens than a stable career is not far away. Of course assuming the immigrant has the necessary technical skills and his/her resume is genuine.

Whether you like it or not, admit or not, employers in Canada are wary to employ new immigrants, despite the skills and education at par. Forget employing, they don't even care and bother to bring them for interview. Study after study shows this, despite Canadian Govt. claims. This is where the Canada bashing comes into existance. Not anyone's fault.
Great, Wishing you all the very best. May you e the inspiration for all the new immigrants irrespective of nationality
Good post Happy Woman.
I am writing this post just to quell some misconceptions about gaining employment in Canada.
Canada is a vast and one of the most highly industrilaized nations in the world. The population of this great nation is only around 34 million and it has a very harsh climate. Canada is one of the largest countries in the world and the GTA area accounts for 1/5th of the total population of Canada. The only major cities in Canada are Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa. Major population is concentrated in these towns. Due to various factors early Canadians spent time working hard and not having children. Now it is composed of very old people and a young work force who are capable of running the country on their own, without immigration.
In the 1970's or so, the govt. decided that it was time to expand its economy, spread towns, increase population. So it allowed for wide spread immigration. That is how Desi's were allowed in.
Now, Canada, admits 3 lakh immigrants or so a year. How many are Indian's? May be 1 lakh a year. may be another 1 lakhs are Chinese and the rest are from other nations?
Are all 3 lakh immigrants, under employed? Of course not. Many find good employment and many more are happy with what they have. So what am I talking about?
Desi's are of two types. One highly educated and the other depending on labor (like the Punjabi's who are happy to work in factories).
Now Canada offers decent jobs for many, otherwise they would be a revolution. Canada also must have significant job oppertunities to absorb the majority of immigrants or there would be unrest here too. So what is the draw back?
Some Desi's are highly educated and come with a saving from Gulf. But Canada may not be able to offer them the same kind of jobs that Gulf was offering them as in Canada jobs don't come that easy. There is a certain element of uncertainity in it. Recently I am hearing that Canadian born and educated guys are finding it very hard to find job in Canada. So my advise to engineering immigrants/other (other than IT and accouning- where jobs are relatively easier to find) is to tread carefully. You may not be able to realize your dream soon enough.
Also you should take advise on buying a house. Canada has been on an housing boon since 2000 (due to massive immigration) and buying a house is always a good decision. Seniors can advise.
Another factor is that Desi's are different from other people (like South American's, philipinoes etc..). Desi mentality is to save money. So Canada may not suit us. People like South Americans, Philipinoes main aim is to enjoy and spend well, which may not be available in their country and hence they will not mind working hard in a factory for 8 hours and drink well that night. Those people also would like Canada's idea of old age homes, Welfare, Food bank, OAS, GIS, CPP etc.. where as the Desi Mentality would be to save millions and also use Canada's resources as mentioned above. So that is where and why the Desi dream will be hard to acheive in Canada.
Hope this helps.
Peace by Murali
