Is our immune system strong or weak?

I try and avoid taking antibiotics and let the cold subside by itself even if I feel inconvenienced. When it does not seem to go away for days together, then I do take antibiotics as a last resort.
Only once I had to go to a doctor when the cold & cough was stubborn and would not go even after taking the antibiotics. I was prescribed a nasal spray which was extremely strong and made me fell drowsy.
Sorry, I don't trust these medications for the same reason as other posters have mentioned about the impact these medications have on our immune system.
I especially do not take the flu vaccine. I personally have had feedback from co-workers and friends who took flu shots which actually made them more sick and susceptible to illness. Again, this is only anecdotal observation.
However, the medical system in Canada(and the US) is run by mafia professionals (of AMA and CMA), gangster pharmaceutical companies, greedy insurance companies(in US), parasitic lawyers and of course fraudulent users who game the system. They ALL drive up the prices and many a time even endanger public health.

You are a victim of the system.
Learn to accept the reality, & get used to it.
All those who refuse to accept this, will very soon experience it. Its just a matter of time (eventually everyone will get old & will be dependent on the health system which is already struggling in Canada).

Gurram,
Based on my experience, I would think otherwise.
Desi mentality is to cure then itself, so that the trouble is gone. So they prescribe antibiotics at the first stage itself.
Native Canadian doctors know only Tylenol. if it does not get cured by tylenol, then upteen tests will be done before the correct antibiotic is prescribed.
Once a child of my friend used to suffer weeks with running nose and nothing was prescribed. Then middle eastern doctor prescribed antibiotics and the cold was gone in a few days.
The parents told it to a native canadian doctor the next time, the child suffered from cold. He said cold is a virus and how can an antibiotic treat it. He got very angry with the parents. He said may be because of your pestering, the doctor gave you antibiotics.
So the parents, went to another walk in, to a senior Indian lady doc., and she prescribed antibiotics and the cold went away again.
However I agree that the desi mentality is to make more money .
Peace by Murali

Absolutely True . I have private insurance from my employer and it covers even physiotherapy also . It covers $6.5 for packing / dispencing charge on each packing / dispencing . Last month my family doctor prescribed me tablets for cholestrol . I went to shoppers drug and they chanrge $ 4.22 extra for despencing charge . They just packed 60 tablets in small bottle which is worth less than $ 1 .At shoppers drug they said that as your insurance company covers $6.5 only so you have to pay remaining amount which is $4.22 . Any how after few questions I paid them . When I received bill they just mentioned $4.22 only . So I asked them to give me something in written that shows that their dispencing charge is $10 , Now I have that proof , for a small bottle normally we use in india for urine sample costs $10.72 . I am looking for consumer court to submit complain . If any one have any idea about it , please share it with me . I live in Alberta state .
