Most Cold cases (depending upon individual immunity & resistance level) develops into cross infection, or mixed infection. Wherein secondary infection may set in, due to lowered body immunity followed by influenza (or common cold) in some not so healthy human beings. Now if this secondary infection is from a resistant strain of bacteria, there's no way, it will disappear on its own (specially if the cause or source of infection is not removed).
In such cases, antibiotic becomes the only mode of treatment.. (that too, with a new variant, which is not from the resistant strain)..

Am not an expert on medicine and along with millions of people, when I landed in 2005, I was also surprised/amazed of why Canadian doctors doesn't prescribe antibiotics when patients and kids are suffering ??
I got an excellent article at that time about why ??? The article clearly stated that the third world countries where antibiotics are being consumed in bulk, is actually killing the immune system. The article took an FLU as a simple example and stated that, think flu as an enemy and antibiotics as a weapon. In last 100 years this flu has been defeated many times with the use of antibiotics but the results is, it is getting stronger and stronger every year. Antibiotics has only 100 years of history.... imagine what will happen in next 200-300 years.
A flu will eventually come which wouldn't be cured with antibiotics. Preservation of immune system is the only way we can go longer time defeating the flu...
But it's totally upto parents/individual to do it. I was actually forced to do that in my first 2-3- years, when I and my kid was sick. Took Tylenol for like 2 weeks and in some instances more than that. But now my body is immune to such things[touch wood] and we don't even rush to doctors for flu or cold or running nose. We know we have to take the generic tylenol or advil....
Understand one thing "Antibiotics history is of only 100 years, while Human history is for 1000's of years !!! Nobody had antibiotics untill last 100 years, not even for sick small kids "

Good discussion.
To the OP: You find new family doctor and stop consulting old doctor. This is all you need. If you think you have lot of record/document at your old doctor you can ask them to send it to your new doctor. They will of course charge you around $ 10-25 per page. If you think you have only generic record and is not very important then just forget about that record and move on. You even don't need to inform anything to your old doctor.
In general doctors are very average here and they don't have time. My child have suffered due to even specialist doctor forgot to check some of the basic stuff and didn't give antibiotics. Ultimately for very simple thing, only child speciality hospital checked the very basic specific thing and gave antibiotics immediately (I have to insist to the specialist or family doctor, I don't remember to refer child to somebody for second opinion). So, this debate will always be there whether to take or not take antibiotics. It is always a miss/hit. By the way I am fairly happy with my current family doctor.
My question to the people - Whenever people (including myself) from Western countries go to India, we get sick easily (Delhi Belly). I understand it is due to hygiene, etc. but why local people don't get sick. I always hear something like people in western countries immune system is not able to handle bacteria/hygiene. Is our immune system strong or weak?
