This is an article of just one American (out of millions) that got converted to Hinduism. So what?

Not tempted by your bait. Just trying to counteract the arguments that those "kool-aid' drinkers make at labelling Hinduism as the next best thing after sliced bread. How many Hindus have tried to do an introspection to figure out what has led to create a rot in this 5,000 year old philosophy?

Again, any person that questions 5,000 year old belief is automatically labelled "secular". Not that being secular is wrong - it is the politicians that have misused the word for their advantage.

Recent news

- Vijay Mallya has no problem driving down his airlines to a loss by piling such huge debt. He does not pay salaries to his employees for a long time. One employee's wife commits suicide. After few days, Mr Mallya donates 3 kg of gold to temple and temple has no hesitation accepting that gold.

- Saibaba temple has received Rs. 305 crore in donations. This money could have been put to a better use first by donors by not donating to temple but donating to a social cause. e.g. microfinance. The temple could use this donation for uplifting the society. Same goes for numerous other temples that wallow in the wealth. How selfish one has to be to ignore the misery surrounding oneself every day?

- How many temples would still not allow Dalits to enter the temple? Even in 21st century, purists raise eyebrows at widows celebrating Holi in northern India.

-Priests close down temple for cleansing after lunar eclipse. And then we claim that our vedic astronomers and mathematicians were aware about eclipses and earth's rotation. Why are we so hesitant to change such archaic practises?

- Even after so much advances in astronomy, we still believe that position of planets at our birth time affects our entire life. Well, what about all the discoveries that were made in last 100 years. How does it change our "Janma Kundali"?

- Why is our religion so ineffective at preventing corruption, rapes and dowry deaths? If the purpose of religion is to instil morality, why the standard of morality so low in India?

- If our religion was so great, how come we got attacked and conquered by foreign invaders? How come our religion was not able to unite us? Even after coming to Canada, we tend to segregate ourselves and huddle together into castes and sub-castes. We go searching for Saibaba and Hanuman temples in GTA. Why it is so difficult to go to just one temple and pray? Wouldn't it make more sense to go to nearest temple or even church and pray rather than driving a longer distance thereby emitting more greenhouse gases in your car?

- How are the rituals and laws that were made 5000 years ago in another country relevant for an Indo-Canadian living in 21st century Canada?

- Why are we as a society so reluctant to change our mindset even after social reformers like Narsinh Mehta, Narmad or Gandhiji?

Phew!

Lol! Now the true secular jumps in the fray. Lol! The whole article is focused on how to answer various silly arguments / comments/ criticism made by Westerners against Hindu religion in “their language”. What the author probably forgot was to include “secular” category. Lol! It is certainly not about conversion of one guy in Hindu. It seems that along with tunnel vision, you have narrow mind too and hence missed the purpose. No wonder you are a “typical secular”.

By the way, there are zillions of articles on all the religions – for and against. I do not want to debate and digress. I found the article very interesting in the sense that it speaks in “western and secular” language. Lol!

I certainly and completely agree with you that the money donated to temples go waste. Unlike other monotheistic religions that are organized, Hinduism is not. Thus Hindu religion lacks a central authority to pronounce “fatwa” or diktats (which is very healthy) and financial muscle to counter negative propoganda as well as help conversion to Hinduism.

Hinduism is the most liberal and enlightening religion. However, for that you will have to read Vivekananda, not Shabbo or Amritya sen. However, considering your IQ, I doubt whether you would ever understand or comprehend Vivekanamda.

By the way, all the religions, being old, have many abhorrent practices. However “secular” have no guts to preach them, for they would slap them. Again, it was not my purpose to prove Hindu religion is the best which it is.

Take a chill pill. Lol!

Excellent post by Meghal ..
I wish Hindus have some thing universal and unifying element ... like Muslims have a mosque and set of rules that are standardized.

Lol! While you congratulate Meghal, I do not think he subscribes to your views.
