Hello everyone, I am planning to do Taxi driving for some time. Could you please guide me how to apply for taxi driver permit and how much do they make per month on average. I do have G driving license so do I need to apply for another license.
Please advice me.
Thanks
I know couple of taxi drivers and .... they are financially good.
What I have heard is that these cab drivers make not more than the minimum wage by driving taxi's.
The benefits are that most of the money is in cash and drivers get welfare. One advantage is that you can take a break whenever you want but you need to be on call for 12-16 hours a day. Not worth it, unless you belong to Somalia (who are the max. people driving taxi's)- with no grudge against any community / race.

1500-2000 CADsafter taxes in a month most of the taxi drivers told me when I 'interviewed' them during my trips (now a days I take taxi almost 30 trips a month for my work). Most of the taxi drivers are from Sudan. But remember those people are lazier than south asians. I am sure asian taxi drivers will make more.
I also observed that income will vary on the basis of region you chose to operate. Places where there are colleges , the business output is aligned more with the semesters. It also depends whether you have your own vehicle or borrowed. I have seen two identity cards hanging in same taxi means two taxi drivers are running it in turns. so their is scope of partnership. There must be difference in operating on own or responding to big taxi operators of the town.
I knew this Software Consultant who used to drive a cab on weekends ... Guess weekends must be better earning periods .
K .. so taxi drivers claim welfare (the bigger the family the better ) , do not report they are working earning cash and not paying taxes ... and some may even rent out their basements ( on cash again ) ...
So I guess with welfare you may be looking at 3500 - 4000 ...
The only thing I would consider as a major risk is the safety aspect with all kind of fares .... some a security risk as well ...
Truck driving is better .

Truck driving? One of my friend started driving truck, money was good. However, his back and neck affected and as a result his health deteriorated. So, he abandoned it after 6 months and pursued driving Taxi at night instead.
I know other people (truckers) who long haul and driving BMWs with (palatial) houses all paid off in about 15 years.
So, in this particular trade it all depands as to how many hours and efforts you're putting in. The more the marrier.
However, I am yet to come across a taxi driver or trucker who is not well-off.
Past and recent articles in the Toronto star seem to advise otherwise.
It tells us that it is impossible to get a taxi licence by yourself and thus you will be working for one who has the taxi license.
Too many licenses, poor turnout, commission to be paid to license owner/ reporting station lead you to getting very poor wages.
Only advantage is that you can set your own time / pace.
I have also heard that these people do illegal work to support them on the side (prostitution help / passing drugs etc).
