Dell has their Dell days of deal going on for the past 2 weeks. They have a new deal everyday and have had some excellent deals on laptops. Check http://www.dell.ca/ The deals end on Sep 28.

As regards a decent configuration, it all boils down to what is your budget and what are you going to use it for (the laptop). Here's one which is on sale today (until 5am tomorrow) http://ecomm.dell.com/dellstore/basket.aspx?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s=dhs&itemtype=CFG&oid=28590cc3-0adb-43af-9c50-b230e6d8ac4a

If you buy from Dell and collect Airmiles, don't forget to go thru https://www.airmiles.ca/arrow/Home for your Airmiles.

As regards a portable drive, you can buy a regular drive and a case separately and just marry :) the two

Tablets is another story. How much are you willing to spend. There are cheap Chinese tablets on the net for around $80 which are not bad.

Good luck with your shopping

I brought a Coby 7" Android 4 Tablet last Saturday from Staples for $70/- (regular price $140/- selling @ 50% discount) .It does not have webcam but I can live with that ....

A q - It can connect to wifi but was wondering if it can have a data plan of its own so that it can also be used remotely ..is it possible to have a data plan on such a tablet and if yes how ? ..

It is highly unlikely that you can have a data plan on it. Check to see if it has a SIM slot.

Since it has USB 2.0 port, data plan can be made available thru stick provided by ISPs.

Thanks Folks for the responses ... I am still to check whether the data stick would work but another option is a Hotspot being sold by windmobile .. which creates a wi fi .

It was intersting to note that with USB host connection a moue and a key board can be attached to the tablet as much as any other mass usb device ..Still exploring ..

Back to the OP - I am always on the lookout for the sub $300/- Intel 15.6 laptop in flyers and occassionally but surely it comes -- Walmart /Staples and last night I saw it at Futureshop's flyer ............. 15.6" 4GB Ram , Intel Processor , 500 GB HD in $299/- ... think its Acer.

Now thats a deal ... it says limited quantities and I would nt be surprised if this does not last through the weekend !!!
