Don't want to be so blunt, I see lot of woman working in gas stations, I feel very sorry for the pressure they go through at work and still paid minimum wage..

When something like this happens in Canada you take no time to show your grudge against this country where you struggled and then left finally.

Gas station should have preventive / protective steps (like mandatory pre-pay, employee should not be responsible for loss) in addition to detective / compensatory steps. I have heard that employees are required to compensate for such kind of loss.

I have not seen any announcement from Shell or gas station owner about the compensation for irreversible loss. Just issuing statement is lame excuse for not having crystal clear policy.
