MMS/Sonia have now accomplished the task of turning this country in to the Banana republic. They want to amend the constitution to abandon the rider that reservation cannot adversely affect the efficiency of public service. The Kangress started vote bank politics right from beginning when Jawahar Joker introduced a law which allowed the farmers tilling the land of landlords to be owner while leaving all other forms of property held untouched. E.g. palatial bunglows, jewellery, ownership of industries and shares. Indira nationalized the coal mines and now Sonia is selling the same at huge profit for her.

The Banana republic now would implement promotion for SC/ST. By dividing India, Kangress hopes to win next election. No democracy allows inequality before the law. Only servile judiciary in India allows that. The day is not far when 70% (SC/ST/OBC and minorities) would ask the rest to get lost and leave India. Muslim rulers had imposed Jiziya on Hindu. Now the same jiziya is demanded of a tiny minority of Bania and Brahmin. Can India be called a democracy?

The unseemly haste with which the Bill providing for reservations to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes in government job promotions has been rushed through the Cabinet is a clear indication that the Manmohan Singh government is out to appease an important vote-bank in a brazen display of opportunism of the crass kind. The undue hurry demonstrated by the government despite Attorney General Goolam Vahanvati’s opinion that such a Bill could be struck down by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional raises doubts about the government’s bona fides. So keen is the government that it be seen by the SCs/STs as their messiah that it has decided to bring the Bill before the Lok Sabha despite several important Bills hanging fire. Considering that it is disregarding its attorney general’s advice and is not even seeking to make the Bill stronger before introducing it, the insincerity of its intentions come to the fore.

Ironically, much as the Congress would like to appropriate the credit for the move, it has to contend with Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati. She has been projecting the Cabinet’s passing of the proposal as her victory since she has been espousing it for a while. Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is not far behind and has been bargaining for inclusion of OBCs. It has got a tacit assurance that an amendment would be brought forth to this effect. Where all this would leave the Congress is anybody’s guess.

Unless political parties agree to put the nation above electoral considerations and people themselves reject parties that indulge in vote-bank politics, the national crisis is bound to deepen. With Parliament virtually paralysed by the Opposition’s demand for the prime minister’s resignation and the ruling dispensation cosy with the idea of having something to blame the Opposition for, all activity of political parties is with an eye on the 2014 elections. It is sad how deep national interest, as opposed to self-interest, has sunk in the attitudes of parliamentarians.
