I am looking to rent a car for a week, any ideas where to look
which is the best company offering best rate and service
i have heard some companies have some hidden charges ?, pls guide
It's nothing like hidden chargers. I have rented car several times from different rental companies depending on the quote i get and never encounter such scenarios.
I would recommend to give a call to few rental companies in your area and see what is there pricing.
Just a tip some credit cards have features of extra discount or insurance included without paying for it if you use that credit card with the rental company they have tie-up. Check your credit card features as well.
Hope that helps - try calling budget, discount, hertz, etc.
There certainly are hidden charges or fine print and please confirm them before picking up rather than being surprised by the bill later .
For eg based on a recent experience I booked through Enterprise CSR and everything looked perfect till I received an acknowledgement email which said that the if the car leaves Ontario there will be a charge of 20c/km ..... Had it known to me before I may not have gone with them ..
I called them up the dealer and he said that for $10/ day he would remove that condition - Had I not noticed or called I m sure they would have billed me 20c/km ..
Best way to book a rental car is to go to one of these websites - Priceline , Hotwire , Travelocity , Kayak and put in your parameters and see what s the best price you get .... Since these providers have some restrictions like no cancellation etc , better call up that particular Agency and try and see if they can price match .... Then book through the Agency ...
In my case I got the price through Priceline and it mentioned Enterprise - I called them up and they gladly matched the price - the benefit being that I still have the cancellation right ....... If you book a week in advance , you might get it for as low as $25/day ...

Fido.
Search redflagdeals for discount codes.
Some credit cards have preffered rental car rates with select rental companies.
I sometimes get best rates on expedia.ca which is usually non refundable.
zipcar.ca is the best

Just looked at their plan on their website. Does not look like the 'best' for occassional renter. May be for frequent renters.
