Last Updated Sat, 15 Mar 2003 14:35:16

OTTAWA - Health officials in Canada are warning the public to stay away from a brand of honey known to be sold in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.

Dabur Honey may contain the drug chloramphenicol, says the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Recalled Dabur Honey
100 g glass jar - UPC 8 901207 005374
250 g glass jar - UPC 8 901207 035364
500 g glass jar - UPC 8 901207 872624

Chloramphenicol poses a small risk of a serious blood disorder known as aplastic anemia. No illnesses have been reported.

All forms of the product are from India. The importers are voluntarily recalling the affected product.

Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic banned from use in food-producing animals in Canada.
