This is interesting thread. How much difference should the salary be between US and Canada, for one to consider moving(taking into consideration salary difference, cheap gas and grocery in US, low car insurance but less social circle and no cricket).
Sunnyvale = Bangalore - crime. Folks know well about Oaktree apartment in Mathilda ave..
Where would you be working ? San Jose / SFO / Moutain View / Redwood shoes / High park ?

I am okay to drive up to half an hour.
Do you think TN to GC is faster than H1B to GC?
Any major difference between these two processes?

I was in CA last year for a week. Stayed with a friend and my assessment is that a 110K family income is not a big deal there, it is probably not enough unless you cut corners. For instance, my friend has a 1800 sq. ft detached house (2 car garage) in a beautiful neighborhood in Redwood city, he paid about 900K for it a few years back and it is about 800K in value currently. Groceries and stuff might be a bit cheaper than here but nothing significant. Gas prices are a bit cheaper (expensive by US standards) but you will most likely drive much more. You really should do the math on what you'd have left after average home/travelling/grocery expenses.
The flip side is it is a beautiful state with stunning landscapes, the weather (at least when we were there) was fantastic and if you are in IT, there are plenty of opportunities. There is also so much to do all year round.
I love it here in Cda. and don't plan to move, but if I ever do move to the states, my first and only choice would be California.
On the whole, it would be a move with some risk, the rewards are certainly there and the risk/reward equation is tilted in one or the other direction based on your perspective. Tough choice - I wish you good luck!

Are you there?

Congrats Meitsme ...
Cdn Dude gives very accurate responses in all US related threads ...
Differences b/w TN & H1
Wife can work on TN but not on H4 ...
In H1 , you can change jobs .... TN to GC may not allow you to do so ...
I d say go for it ... but consider your parents' PR application ...
