I have been here since Aug 2011 and not yet found a job, small office job. I dont think my move here from Dubai was a success. I have been going for interviews, etc, workshops but nothing. I think there is a sense of racism in job interviews. There are few of my other friends going through the same issue.. and are in the same boat.
I would strongly advise people coming here make prior arrangements for job.. or you are going to run thro your savings. Speaking from experience.
It's better to look job in another provinces or cities and ready to move. Many people ( I know two) were working under capacity or odd jobs as per their skills. They got good break in AB. You may think about H1 or TN option for gaining North America experience then come back if needed.
Try to get a co-op or volunteer part time job first. Once you are in, you will get another full paid opportunity soon. There is a govt organization which provide paid co-op job to new immigrants where they pay a part of your salary to the employer.
Looking for job is itself a full time job. Networking is very important as most of the jobs are never advertise.
After getting a negative response of the interview, contact the interviewer to ask the deficiencies and gaps between you and the successful candidate. I remember once the interviewer offered the job to the unsuccessful candidate after a week because the successful candidate failed to join and the interviewer was impressed with the attitude of the unsuccessful candidate.

Thank you Delhite.
However, its not that simple... I have a whole bunch of friends, attend social gatherings tried to increase network contacts. Nothing so far.. all contacts know I am looking for a job.
Whats the govt organisation name? I have dealtwith NCP, Access etc.. but not heard anything of a paid co-op for new immigrants.
Appreciate your response.
Vanrasq,

Apply methodological approach – If you are not getting a break, either there are not much openings in your profession OR there are some gaps between what you have and what is required. For first possibility, evaluate whether the situation is going to change in near future – if not think about moving to another/similar profession or moving to another place where new opportunities are available.
For second possibility (which is more likely) try to get yourself evaluated – through mock interviews, getting feedback after unsuccessful interview etc. Record your mock interview and watch it to see where you can improve.
If no one is giving you even a volunteer opportunity – there is something seriously missing.
