Hello,
I moved to GTA/Canada recently. I am interested in gardening and growing organic vegetables, fruits, etc. I don't have land or house to do gardening, but, want to find out from this forum whether there is any community gardening project in Toronto. I would appreciate any info on this. Thanks.
Hi Nanbar, Welcome to Toronto. There are some community gardens in Toronto. Unfortunately they are not spread evenly throughout the city so it will depend on where you are located - there isn't anything right downtown. Some are run by the municiple government. Info on those can be found here: http://www.toronto.ca/parks/engagement/community-gardens/index.htm I contacted the organizers of the community garden in High Park 2 years ago and they said to get a request in early because they always fill up each summer. The Toronto Community Garden Network website might also have information of interest to you http://www.tcgn.ca/wiki/wiki.php.
If you're interested in locally grown foods the farmers market at Evergreen is a nice place to visit. It's a real farmers market unlike the St. Lawrence market. Some of the prices are high so growing your own is still a better idea if you are able.
