On a side note I once met a person with very similar resume like yours selling cars at the Mazda showroom at Erin ills parkway auto mall. He had obtained a car salesman certificate from George brown college, Toronto.

Sir:
Welcome to Canada !
The salesman that Vandemataram is talking about might be taking home $ 5000 to $ 10,000 a month. You can also look into real estate brokership(2.5% fees- expenses).
However whatever you do or what ever people say, NEVER open a buffet restaurant. You will go broke. That is the glitter of Canada.
Other senior desi's can help you find a job for sure.
The univ. of Waterloo survey for $ 40 still remains,.
Peace

Jai Kanata!

Dear all

I have done my initial process and landed in Toronto in May 2011 completed all the formalities , obtained PR, SSN for the entire family. But I have few queries

1. What are the chances for me in teaching in Community colleges/Vocational courses(Electronics) having 16+ years of experience in India /Dubai, currently I am placed in Dubai and am working as Senior Faculty in an Indian based Engineering University.

2.What is the last chance of entering Canada so that my kids get the Canadian citizenship after 3 years as per rule.(my date of entry is May 19th 2011 in Toronto)

3.How about school admissions if I land around October or later , my elder son is in grade 8 and younger in KG1.Will I be able to get admission for them anytime I enter?

4.shoud my certificates be assessed by any agency before I apply and if so by whom can I get the address and contact person mail id.

5. I know that there are intial glitches and life is not easy as in Dubai , but how about culture and weather.

Immediate help is required, thanks in advance.

If you want proper attention, then start a fresh thread. This one got mixed with some one else's request and is getting carried away into the responded ones. Is it a similar thread and do the messages provide you with at the least a few answers. If not search for one that is similar and then post it under that.

You were smart enough to get in and get a few of the papers processed. Did you first ask anyone if it was necessary?

Enough said about the accomplishments of people Immigrating into Canada and getting all kind f cards and accounts with Banks etc., OH Yea, you have to show that you got some thing from Canada when you entered. This one, SSN, will not hurt you much.

Now you have ample time at your disposal to do what you will need to do prior to your settling down here.

This response is in no particular order.

You entered on 19th of May 2011. You will have time till 18th of May 2014 to re-enter and fill in 712 days, which will permit you to renew your PR Card, in the month of May 2016.(That does not permit you any breaks.)

To obtain Citizenship you will need 1095 days, so you will need to fill in more or less continuously 1095 and with in a four year period. That is for you.

For your children, the time required is the same, which is 1095 days and they will have to be Major or 18 years of age to swear in. I am sure you can do the calculations providing due regards to their ages.

If you know where you will be finding a place, either to continue with YOUR own education to qualify for a certificate to teach, then settle down close by and find a school near by the place of residence. That is easy. (B.Ed.)

The start of a NEW School year is the first TUESDAY in September of each year. Which is the day after the NORTH AMERICAN LABOUR DAY.

If you know where you are going to settle down, then contact all of the schools nearby, a few months prior to arrival from where ever you are, by mail or by e-mail and tell them about your child and your requirements.

For KG, there is a wait list and a few of the schools are over filled. Take a chance or find one that has vacancy and move close to it. You may have to travel for your courses or to your job and it will be a lot longer commute.

You will have to evaluate your Educational Qualifications locally in a province that you want to settle down. Decide upon the same and find where you will have to send your papers. Have all of the recommendations handy. Especially one from the current work place and one who will stand behind you and confirm what he wrote. Please check one of my previous mail and see all of the links to the locations that provide you with the validity. ( I will edit this post when I find the same.)

These are the hoops and the loops that you will have to go through and since you have ample time on hand before your re-entry, take one step at a time and complete the task very diligently and find success.

The one that prepares all of these well in advance will find their settlement in Canada a breeze and pleasurable.

Dear Full House

Thanks a ton for immediate response.

1. Most of my queries have been answered excepting that If I want to teach in colleges/Community colleges where certificate courses/ bachelor's programs are being offered , do I still need to do BEd? The reason for this doubt is I have masters in Electronics Engineering and have 16 + years of experience in teaching undergraduate students of Engineering. I do not have BEd, as it was not required. But Should I have BEd for teaching a professional course?

2. Can you please guide me through how to get My certificates attested in Ontario?

3. how is job market for teaching in professional courses ? How much will be the salary structure?

4. Can my children get admission incase if I decide to come later than september due to personal grounds?

5. As I am now in Dubai with my family and both me and my husband has jobs and settled , I am confused to take a step in moving to canada, as the cahrcha site has negative side more in moving to canada, so I am little skeptical. what is your idea?

6 I am planning to move just for the case of kids, so I really do not want to give up. So is Confusion.

Guide me through your valid suggestions.

Thanks once again.

1. I have not looked at the employment scenery for Teachers in Electrical Engineering or in Vocational Schools. {The Engineering studies are at the University Levels and the Vocational Schools are at the Diploma Levels} So, the field is wide open. Anyone who can work towards P.Eng.courses can surely get in at any of the above two levels. So go for P.Eng. if you can.

Do you need B.Ed. Not necessary, because, I do see teachers in vocational schools who are from the field and get in to teach and then slowly merge into B.Ed courses and get a good standing. How did they do it? They are TOPS in their field of work, innovative, trouble shooting and also designers and worked in Fabrication and Manufacturing. They are now heads of the department in these Schools and the product that comes out of these schools are TOPS in their field, because of these teachers.

Now for treachers, they are in the best of professions. Command a good salary, work from 8 to 4 with lots of breaks. Five days a week. Barely NINE Months of the year. They are in an enviable position. So, aim high and find a suitable job in your field, anywhere in Canada and settle down.

Now you are askingf me if your kids will get a seat if you enter slightly later, if you land after the start of the school year. YES, Yes and yes. Guaranteed.

The salaries start at 60K level. That is Low Low Level. You will merit under 90K But they are hesitant to provide that, being unable to evaluate your speech, expression and ability, even though you are qualified and have good experience, over sixteen years under your belt.

Now to life's realities. I am blunt here. If anyone works for 16 loong years in a tax free haven, they would have salted away a good chunk of savings, which when invested any where in a place that will provide a good 12% return will have a third income. ( You have passed the second income stage) Now you have another 25-30 years here in Canada prior to retirement and at retirement, you will not see a penny extra out of it in your bottom line after you pension out of these schools/colleges/universities, because CRA, your Life Partner (Not your wife) will drain the blood out of you. They call it claw back.

So, what are you working here for. YOUR KIDS and their future. What did you declare in your statement to get in into Canada, and is there a way to shelter your savings that you currently have on you. All of these are academic now. Anyone in your shoes who has a chunk of savings, should think and use a consultant prior to moving to a new country.

For starters, you will need a roof over your head, home to get in. Look for a location where the values move up every year. RICHMOND HILL is one such location in GTA. Any appreciation in value is very much sheltered in the Primary residence.
Insure yourselves to the hilt, both your self and your spouse, jointly. Policy to payout at the first death.
Remember the happy ending of the fairy tales... Lived happily ever after. Just try and do that.

Do remember you are in CANADA, the best TAX HAVEN in the world, regardless who runs it down. The best place on earth and no one can shake it down.

You are almost there.
