I am wondering if someone does not find a job in the 9 month period of EI then what? I heard that EI can be extended in times of recession. Does anyone have any info ? Thanks.
That was once upon time before conservative got a majority.
It was discontinued last year. The extended period was for 5 weeks for every year of EI.
We are back to normal world now. Economy is doing good, share market is down, loonie lost 2 points, food bank more than busy than ever.....
Do NOT blame conservatives . What was the extension period is the reflection of the economy that there were no jobs to get. Now there are some jobs to get.
The fundamental concept of EI should be to get out of it asap. instead of extending it like being on welfare.
if extension is considered good, then some practical people cannot help you.

Yes. If you qualify for Second Career Course and join a school. Contact nearest HRDC centers to know if you qualify or not.
Earlier EI was extended in recession because Service Canada had an excess of funds. Now as Unemployment Rate is very high, they are running out of dollars and restricted some of the extended benefits.
I agree that conservative majority has nothing to do with this.
Nope. Not possible. The max. benefit of EI is only up to max. of 52 weeks and nothing more.
Like in case, my EI is still left in Canada but after the end of the year, I will have no claim to EI.
You can try second career and things like that.
The govt. expects you to visit Food banks after your EI runs out or try the welfare options. The welfare options does not work out if you have money or things more than $ 3000
Welcome to Canada.
Peace
