so here we are again. Ontario provincial elections are coming up on Oct 6th.
who are you all planning to vote for?
and more importantly what do fellow desis think of the two recent high profile proposals by the esteemed Premier McGuinty about the education subsidy and the immigrant hiring tax credit?
in case you are not familiar with it following are some links:
http://www.cbc.ca/m/rich/news/story/2011/09/05/toronto-liberal-platform.html
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ontariovotes2011/story/2011/09/06/tax-credit-ontario-immigrant546.html
My take on each of these as following:
we don't need more tax payer subsidized education.
this is just another robbery of tax payer money to fund the universities and teachers' lobbies.
what will happen is as soon as this is implemented, you will see that tuition costs start going up.
within a couple of years, tuition costs will go up to neutralize the effect of the subsidy.
this will be a very passive and convenient transfer of wealth from your pockets to the pockets of unionized teachers and other government workers and university treasuries.
we already have a very generous and accessible post secondary sunbsidy in place. it is called the RESP.
It is administered by the federal govt. and is open to all canadian residents in all provinces.
the canadian tax payer is subsidizing a minimum of $7,500 per child and slightly more in some cases like for those that receive CLB grants.
I don't understand why Ontario residents that are happy to buy $600K houses in suburbian Toronto need $1,600 per year of education subsidy.
Regarding the subsidy to hire immigrants, this is purely a vote grabbing gimmick. it is a joke.
worst part is that it is being funded by your hard earned money.
the problem with immigrant employment is not that they can't get a job...the problem is that they can't get a job in their field and that their education is not recognized
That is why we have highly qualified people like accountants, engineers, etc driving cabs and working in factories.
McGuinty should try and address that fundamental problem instead of doing gimmicks like this.
this will be just another transfer of money from tax payers to the businesses that hire an engineer to drive a cab or pump gas and it does 0 real benefit for immigrants.
but mcguinty will not do that because the real access to jobs such as recognizing the education and certifications is tightly controlled by his unionized monopolies like the public sector unions.
overall the liberal plans will cost the tax payers upwards of $1.5Billion starting immediately.
any guesses on how it will be paid for?
yep...more taxes
what do you guys think of these plans?
Vote for NDP.
You raised some good points Desibabu..... Subsidies are not good , period.....
I dont like McGuinty anyway, so my vote will not be for him that i know for sure..... High time for a change in Ontario!

I am debating between PC and NDP. I will never vote for Mcguinty.
cheers
rsk
I do not like my MPP, a liberal.
Sadly, Mr. Hudak has nothing exciting to offer. He keeps on beating the same drum. And looking at what Mr. Ford is doing to Toronto, I am not comfortable at having another Ford at provincial level. Making prisoners work on Toronto streets, making public the offender's registry, cutting back on "green jobs"....???
Healthcare, economy and infrastructure are the major issues that need immediate attention, and neither of the two leaders have any attractive solution.
Time to vote for NDP may be?

Quote:you mean the same NDP that is publicly ready to support a separation by Quebec, as recently as this week's national Caucus in QC?
