Lot to learn from the current movement initiated by Anna. He united India for sure (now reps of parliament included).

After the lokpal bill passes, there will be lot to be done.
Traditionally we are good in passing laws but implementation and governance is always a question mark. But there is hope this time as it seems to be in everybody's interest. fingers crossed !!

I was always fan of gandhian thought process and its form of agitation, this became a live proof of its solid impact.
I even watched movie Gandhi recently to get a recap on the practices. ;-). What I realised, One amazing thing that happened during that time was despite media not so active and literacy at low level , Gandhian thought process gained popularity among the massess like quickfire.

Will be interesting to read international view point on Anna Hazare's achievement...

India’s Parliament Gives In to Protests on Corruption Bill

CloseLinkedinDiggMySpacePermalink NEW DELHI — India’s Parliament capitulated on Saturday to the anticorruption campaigner Anna Hazare and the hundreds of thousands of people who took to the streets to support his cause in a standoff that lasted nearly two weeks.

After a day of wrangling and speechifying, Parliament adopted a resolution endorsing Mr. Hazare’s central demands for shaping legislation to create an independent anticorruption agency empowered to scrutinize public officials and bureaucrats in India.

Mr. Hazare, 74, has been waging a hunger strike for 12 days, refusing to call it off unless Parliament adopted his proposed legislation to fight graft rather than a bill put forward by the government. Huge crowds of supporters have participated in peaceful protests and rallies across India in what became an outpouring of public disgust over corruption.

Mr. Hazare’s aides told the Indian news media that he would now probably end his fast on Sunday morning at Ramlila Maidan, the public grounds in New Delhi where thousands of supporters had already started rejoicing on Saturday night, even as lawmakers were finishing their speeches in Parliament.

“There is a need of a change in the system,” said Pranab Mukherjee, the powerful minister who introduced the resolution into the Lok Sabha, the lower house. “And we are doing so.”

Parliament must still take several steps before final passage of a law to create the anticorruption agency, known as the Lokpal, before the end of the session. Saturday’s resolution also was marked by a touch of legislative sleight-of-hand. Mr. Hazare’s team had wanted a public vote in order to identify lawmakers who opposed the measure. Instead, the measure was read aloud in both houses and given approval without a vote.

“It was unanimous,” said R. P. N. Singh, a lawmaker and government minister, when asked on NDTV, a news channel, about the lack of a vote. “Both the houses have stepped up their resolve to fight corruption.”

Mr. Hazare’s hunger strike dominated public life in India and exposed a visceral public revulsion at the depth of corruption here, large and small. Hundreds of thousands of people had poured into the streets across the country to support his campaign for a tough anticorruption agency. Movie stars, gurus, politicians, singers and others flocked to his side at Ramlila Maidan, which served as his fasting site. Crowds filled the grounds despite heat and rain.

In recent days, the impasse has been centered on three demands by Mr. Hazare: that Parliament pass a Lokpal law during its current session; that similar agencies to fight corruption be established at the state level; and that a transparent process be established for public grievances. Those demands were endorsed in Saturday’s resolution, though the final details will be codified when the legislation moves to a special parliamentary committee.

“Parliament has spoken,” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told the Indian news media on Saturday. “The will of Parliament is the will of the people.”

If anything, though, the Hazare movement exposed the depth of disillusionment with India’s politics. Mr. Hazare’s hunger strike became a platform to articulate broader public frustrations.

He has lost more than 15 pounds, and refused medical advice to take glucose.

“You have done wonders,” Mr. Hazare told the crowd at Ramlila Maidan on Saturday morning, before Parliament approved the resolution. “Today the Parliament is discussing the issues you have raised. It is the people’s parliament that is supreme.”

Looks like Media will still highlite this issue until it all settles and regulate on daily basis.

I feel there will be a big change in india.

My one cousin told me that he was crossing intersection and trafic police stop him for failed to stop on red light. He perticularly asked that i will pay fine but i will not give u money. This is the change that ANNA did.

we will definetly see change what Anna and all people wish. Might we can think that India become world poweful country if all works well, and some of us will be proudly move back to india.

Monday to Saturday, it was all media creation. When Arnab Goswami, Rajdeep Sardesai and others wanted to go away on Sunday, they got impatient from Thursday evening onwards. When is Anna going to end his fast? When will be the right time? Ours is the one which gave non-stop for 200 hours etc., etc.
What has the Bill got to do with the corruption? The Congress were the opponents, the BJP the untouchables for the Civees. How on earth are we going to expect the Bill to be passed with totally more than 400 members belonging to these 2 parties.
One day Anna praises Narendra Modi. The next day his danseuse colleague does a Rudra Thandava. To satisfy her, Anna says that Modi's Gujarat Govt is most corrupt. Something wrong somewhere.
Is it not foolish to expect the local criminal to come to the police station, as demanded by the victim. go inside the lock up and lock himself up. In Ramdev's case the criminal bashed up the complainant in the Inspector's presence and went back. Now he may lock the complainant and go home. The Inspector (the people of India) will do nothing.
The Congress govt at the centre during the last 60 more years have cooked many halwas for the people of different states. "Illegal Immigrant" halwa for the Assamese, "Chandigarh Halwa' for Punjab, "26/11 Halwa" for Mumbai, "Telengana Halwa" for AP, "Cauvery Halwa" for TN and now "JanLok Pal Bill Halwa" for the upper middle class. This was what precisely I had told my wife at the week beginning and precisely what the Dinamalar Tamil Daily had given as today's head lines.
If Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi or Prashant Bushan wants to end corruption by passing a Bill they must have gone on an hunger strike indefinitely. Was it morally right to ask a 74 year old person to do so?
What is the connection between the Bill and corruption? Claiming "battle" "victory" etc., will it be from tomorrow the traffic policeman at the Signal not collect any bribe? Who are they fooling and what for?
But as one protester in Chennai said, if they don't succeed in Gandhian way people may go the Bagat Singh way. Though it is unlikely by the educated, selfish, self centered upper middle class, it will start, sometime somewhere. The Congress and the next BJP govt will be wrong if they think "It will not happen in India and to us". Utmost necessity that they tackle the corruption and black money problem in right earnest.
During the last 60 years, had enough of the Congress, Corruption, Cinema, Cricket and now the Civees. India too has its burden of Cs.
P. S.: Should not someone from Kerala send sachets of good coconut hair oil for the women Civees, to groom their unkempt hair. What kind of brand image they want to project?
