"What's up with these south asians? Every time I sell tickets to a south asian guy and finish a transaction, they never smile or say 'thank you'. They either stare blank-faced, give me a wierd look or go about their next business like I don't even exist. Sometimes I tell them 'Enjoy your movie' and they walk away without saying anything or even smiling. I'm stopped saying anything outside of the transaction to them now."
It isn't always racism, there's more to it. Plus, like others have said, it is too minor to be bothered about.
One thing you could do, that will most likely will make a difference in your experience is as follows
When you get to the counter, look at the attendant, smile and say "How are you doing?". Like you mean it. In a way that makes the guy at the counter feel like he/she is more than a robot handling transactions.
Well said....
My latest tactics - when someone does not say thank you, I just say "you are welcome". That gets me the weirdest stare of all...makes my day

Some of you might have been to Mr. SUB in Dixie outlet mall, rest is out of your experience

The OP let the cat out and is "Enjoying the movie"
If this is what was called racism then we would not have had the civil rights movement in the USA..
The proper word is cultural ignorance..
