Canadian Media also giving more value to IIFA as well. Today on Toronto Star first page is Photo with Shaimak Dawar and about IIFA.
yesterday on CP24 was showing live about all indian stars are coming to toronto and blah...blah...
cheers.....
It is unfortunate (and pathetic) that a movie like Slumdog Millionaire has come to represent Indian cinema in the minds of the West recently, esp. here in Canada.
And from within that movie, the absurd scene of the kid falling into a pile of sh*t has come to epitomize the quality of daily life in India.
It's either that, or movies like "Fire" that gets marketed and popularized here.
No one believes Bollywood makes (or can make) any serious cinema.
Most Canadians have a mildly amusing and condescending attitude towards Indian movies, and festivals like this will not do anything to change that.
If anything it'll reinforce that image.

I think its good that, IIFA has made its way to North America,,,and we as are lucky, that Toronto was choosen as the preferred destination.. doesnt matter how and who foots the bills for it.
Its all about Indian cinema being recognized in this part of the world. Its the IIFA marketing that is working right now, and I c its working very very nicely. As far as I have seen, there is not one channel that has NOT covered IIFA...Yesterday CBC had atleast about 20 min of a feature on it..CTV, BT, CityTV, everyone is on it. From a business point, its good.. tourism is going to benefit Toronto.
South Asian population has increased in the last 4-5 yrs dramatically in the GTA, and of all, this will help the businesses here.
Are the tickets costly? probably... But there are tons of Indian fans out there, who will pay that money. I know not only Indians who are fans, but I know many gora's who are coming to the IIFA show tomorrow. The percentage might be less, but nevertheless there are fans out there.
Looking from a +ve side, probably this will help get Indian cinema globally recognized.
I am going to be attending the event....and I am very looking forward to it.
Njoy guys !!!!
